Description

The Community Engagement Specialist will develop a new exciting initiative called Shalom STL and serve as a welcoming ambassador for individuals and families who have recently moved to the St. Louis area and are seeking ways to connect within the St. Louis Jewish community. This position is responsible for finding and building relationships with newcomers, understanding their interests and needs, and connecting them to the people, programs, and services that will help them feel at home in the St. Louis Jewish community.

The ideal candidate is warm, resourceful, and community-minded — someone who thrives on helping others make personal connections and find belonging.

Part-Time Position, 20 hours per week with flexible work schedule.

Key Responsibilities

Outreach & Relationship Building

  • Welcome and personally connect with new residents through one-on-one meetings, phone calls, and community events.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for newcomers seeking Jewish community information, programs, and opportunities.
  • Build strong relationships with local synagogues, agencies, schools, and organizations to maintain current knowledge of programs, services, and events.
  • Maintain a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for all newcomers regardless of affiliation, age, or background.
  • Develop relationships and partnership with local realtors, HR Directors and relocation specialists to promote activities and find newcomers to St. Louis

Program & Event Coordination

  • Develop and coordinate quarterly welcome events, neighborhood gatherings, and informational sessions to help newcomers engage socially and culturally.
  • Partner with Jewish community organizations, congregations and agencies to provide benefits, discounts, and special invitations to incentivize participation in the vibrancy and diversity of Jewish life in St. Louis.
  • Assist in promoting relevant programs, such as volunteer opportunities, cultural activities, and family programs.

Resource Connection & Follow-Up

  • Create a resource guide of Jewish and community services, schools, clergy, and organizations for referrals.
  • Create follow-up plans to ensure newcomers remain connected and supported over time.
  • Track participation data and prepare regular reports on engagement outcomes and trends.

Communications & Marketing

  • Collaborate with J Marketing department to create newcomer communications, such as welcome packets, newsletters, SWAG items and digital resources.
  • Maintain a social media or digital presence that promotes connection, belonging, and awareness of community events.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Human Services, Jewish Studies, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in community engagement, outreach, social services, or relationship management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; genuine interest in people, storytelling, and connection.
  • Knowledge of Jewish customs, traditions, and the St. Louis Jewish community strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends to attend community events.
