Description

Adult Day at the J offers two specialized program tracks, Connections and IN. Our Connections program provides day support to older adults with Alzheimer’s/Dementia and other cognitive and physical impairments. Our IN program provides day support to individuals over the age of 18 who have autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other intellectual and developmental disabilities. Both programs are geared to help our participants build upon and maintain their current knowledge, discover new abilities and cultivate personal growth while working to achieve their individualized goals.

Summary and Position Overview:

The Program Manager at each location oversees the day-to-day operations of their Adult Day at the J location including the Connections and IN program. This role leads, manages, and supports a team of Direct Support Professionals, nursing staff, drivers and administrative support. This position is responsible for the effective delivery, development, implementation, and daily operations of program services. The Program Manager ensures appropriate coordination with participants, families, Adult Day staff, other JCC departments, and community partners to ensure high-quality, inclusive services. Adult Day at the J is accredited by the State of Missouri and licensed by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

The ideal candidate is a self-starter, highly organized, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. They should have the flexibility to work within our operating hours, 7:30am to 5pm, Monday – Friday, including some evening and weekend hours.

Leadership & Supervision:

  • Provide direct, ongoing supervision of Direct Support Professionals, nurses, drivers and administrative staff.
  • Hire, onboard, train, mentor, coach and develop staff.
  • Develop staff into a highly performing team while establishing growth potential into promotional roles.
  • Monitor performance, provide feedback, and coach staff as needed.
  • Prepare, approve, and submit payroll per agency guidelines.
  • Hold staff accountable for meeting program expectations.

Program Operations:

  • Plan, promote, and arrange all activities, and programming logistics for the center.
  • Develop and implement strategies to help participants achieve individualized goals.
  • Ensure daily participant attendance is maximized.
  • Collaborate with the Program Assistant III to manage logistics, outings, and events.
  • Partner with JCC departments and external organizations to identify volunteer and recreational opportunities
  • Manage staff-to-participant ratios to ensure safe, quality support.
  • Oversee participant transportation and staff coverage during transitions. May be required to assist in transporting participants to and from the center.
  • Monitor and respond to participant, family, and staff concerns promptly, ensuring excellent customer service.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Programs and the Associate Director of Client Services to maximize efforts and achieve high participant and family success rates.

Compliance and Documentation:

  • Ensure compliance with all state funding and licensure requirements.
  • Oversee completion of participant progress notes, staff documentation, billing, and training records.
  • Support audits and monitoring visits.
  • Maintain fire protection compliance (drills, water/extinguisher checks).
  • Complete ISP and Therap updates, monthly summaries, and documentation monitoring.

Financial and Administrative:

  • Manage program budget in alignment and agency expectations.
  • Oversee inventory processes.
  • Support marketing and outreach efforts to recruit new participants.
  • Track and respond to Net Promoter Score (NPS) feedback.

Team & Community Engagement

  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, training, and required agency events.
  • Train, coordinate, and supervise volunteers, ensuring clear expectations are set.
  • Collaborate across JCC departments to promote inclusion and community-building.
Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Education:
    • BS/BA in Education or Human Services (preferred), OR
    • High school diploma/GED with 4+ years of experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
    • Graduate degree (MSW, MEd, or related) strongly preferred.
    • Must possess or be able to obtain a Class E driver’s license endorsement or equivalent.
  • Experience & Skills:
    • Prior supervisory or management experience required.
    • Strong skills in program development, lesson planning, and skill instruction.
    • Proficiency in creating and documenting Individual Support Plans (ISPs).
    • Experience with public speaking and leading group presentations preferred.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and database applications; ability to learn new software. Experience in Therap is a plus.

    • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and engage in physical activity for extended periods in various weather conditions.
    • Ability to swim in both indoor and outdoor settings.
    • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs., assist with mobility, and transfer participants (up to 250 lbs.) when required.
    • Visual and auditory acuity to effectively supervise and support participants.
