See open jobs at St. Louis JCC.See open jobs similar to "Cancer Support Group Facilitator" CareerHub.The J’s Hamsa Wellness Community, the cancer care program at The J is seeking a compassionate and skilled facilitator to lead a monthly, in-person support group for women navigating a breast or ovarian cancer diagnosis, anywhere along their journey – including post treatment. This support group provides a warm, supportive, and inclusive space where participants can share their journeys, connect with others, and receive emotional support. The facilitator plays a central role in creating a safe and respectful environment that reflects the values of empathy, dignity, and community. The support group takes place in the evening.
This position pays two different rates based upon the work performed:
- $80 per hour for clinical group facilitation
- $18 per hour for administrative work
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate a monthly in-person support group session at the J.
- Working with the Hamsa Wellness Community Director, prepare and organize discussion topics or activities aligned with the group’s needs.
- Foster a compassionate and non-judgmental atmosphere that encourages sharing and connection.
- Support new participants in integrating into the group and understanding group norms.
- Be attentive to participants’ emotional needs and refer to appropriate resources when necessary.
- Collaborate with the J staff on group logistics and participant follow-up as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and cultural sensitivity at all times.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in the mental health field from an accredited graduate school and MO licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Work (LCSW), Clinical Psychologist (PhD) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
- Experience facilitating support groups or working with individuals impacted by serious illness, trauma, or grief; Understanding of the emotional and psychosocial impact of cancer on individuals and families.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including active listening, empathy, and emotional presence.
- Three to five years’ experience in oncology and/or support group facilitation preferred.
Familiarity with Jewish customs and values is preferred but not required. A strong willingness to learn and respectfully engage with Jewish traditions and community life is essential.
