Description

Summary:

The J’s Youth Theatre KIDS is seeking a director for its Fall 2025 production of Finding Nemo KIDS.

The program meets weekly to learn material that teaches the foundational skills in auditioning and performing. The season ends with a fun show that sets them up for great success as they prepare to step into the JUNIOR Program.

The Director will work 75 hours each semester at a rate of $15/hour including 2 hours each Sunday for rehearsal/production meetings and additional remote hours for preparation. Rehearsals begin August 17, 2025, with performances the week of November 10, 2025.

The KIDS Director should be passionate about working with young students ages 5-8 and enjoy presenting material in an engaging age-appropriate manner. The KIDS Director works closely with the Producer to cast the show, plan rehearsals, and create a positive experience for the students.

Requirements
  • Work with the Producer to assign parts.
  • Conduct rehearsals and performances in a fun and safe manner.
  • Block the show and teach to cast.
  • Teach fundamental performing skills to students (basic stage directions, singing, choreography).
  • Develop a costume plot with the Producer. Keep in mind ease of use and allocated budget.
  • Along with the Producer, ensure all materials are gathered and put away after rehearsals and performances. Ensure any materials that must be returned are accounted for.
  • Be mindful of the allocated budget and ensure that the production is completed within budget.
  • Know and understand all safety procedures of the J. Lead the participants in the event of an emergency.
  • Attend all training and meetings as required. Attend all rehearsals and performances.

Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • College degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Prior experience working with young children is required.
  • Skilled in teaching songs and music to young children through the use of music tracks.
  • Skilled in setting and teaching blocking to young children.
  • Basic choreography skills are needed.
  • One or more years of previous directorial experience are required or several years of theatre experience across disciplines.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Patience and ability to deal with multiple priorities at one time.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to use various online tools (Google Suite, Trello, etc)
Salary Description
$15 per hour
