About Us The St. Louis Jewish Community Center (the J) has been providing excellent health and cultural experiences for the entire community for over 140 years.

Hours and Status

We are hiring for a part time Full-Time Class E or CDL Driver. The hours are split shift from 7:00am - 9:30am AND 2:00 -l 4:30pm.

Want full time hours? We have additional hours available to deliver Meals on Wheels, as well as assisting with Participants lunch.

Summary:

This position supports the LEADS Program with both the transporting of Participants and providing food service assistance. As a driver, one transports older adults and individuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities to and from their homes to the Jewish Community Center (the J) and various activity sites. Provides physical support to assist and safely navigate Participants on and off the vehicle. When needed, provide transportation for meal delivery programs to home-bound seniors. (Meals on Wheels) Supports food service programs by portioning and plating meals daily, while cleaning dishes and maintaining kitchen cleanliness standards.

Hours: Monday through Friday from 7:00 am-4:30 pm, with an occasional evening or weekend for special events.

Essential Tasks:

  • Consistently ensure the safety of all passengers.
  • Assist all Participants door-to-door from their residence to the J. Includes assisting participants on and off the bus/van, operating the vehicle’s wheelchair lift, pushing a wheelchair, lifting, and securing adaptive equipment for transport once passenger is seated, etc.
  • Provide transportation services to adults of the LEADS Program to and from community outings, per required need.
  • Proactively contact families 5-10 minutes ahead of pick-up and drop-off each day.
  • Conduct safety checks daily on company vehicles at the beginning and at the end of each shift. Report any vehicle service needs to the appropriate Buildings and Grounds contact.
  • Report any Participant concerns or needs to a supervisor.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Load meals for homebound delivery (lifting to 50lbs), and deliver meals as assigned.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the bus.
  • Provide feedback regarding the efficiency of routes, suggestions for improvement, and other issues that pertain to the LEADs Programs and/or the Participants.
  • Assist Kitchen J by completing final preparations for meals such as heating, slicing, and portioning of food for the Early Childhood Program. Plate Adult Day meals according to CACFP guidelines.
  • Support Kitchen J by gathering and washing dishes; maintaining kitchen cleanliness and stocking supplies.
  • Attend required training sessions and meetings.
  • All other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
  • Must have and maintain active C.D.L. (Commercial Driver’s License) A, B, or C with passenger endorsement or Class E with the ability to obtain CDL.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Maintain a clean driving record.
  • Must be able to read and follow instructions.
  • Good customer service skills and demonstrate a positive demeanor.
  • Ability to exercise and demonstrate patience when assisting frail older adults.
  • Ability to physically assist frail elderly adults, up to 250 pounds, in and out of the bus/van for transfer and with mobility. Includes assisting those with canes, walkers, and manual and electric wheelchairs.
  • Must be able to walk, bend, push, lift, sweep the bus/van, see, hear, and have the physical capacity to drive the bus/van.
  • Must have physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, transfer participants (up to 250 pounds), push and maneuver a wheelchair up to 250 pounds, and assist participants with mobility.
  • Ability to interact personally with participants and their families.
  • Current American Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification is required (training is provided)

Salary Description
$20.00 - $21.00 Per Hour
