Summer Day Camp Nurse / Behavior Specialist

The Summer Day Camp Nurse & Behavior Specialist is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and emotional well-being of all campers and staff throughout the camp session. This dual role combines medical care with behavioral support to create a safe, inclusive, and positive camp environment.
As the Camp Nurse, responsibilities include administering first aid, managing medications, responding to medical emergencies, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations. The nurse provides care for minor injuries and illnesses, maintains accurate health records, and communicates with parents as needed regarding medical concerns.
As the Behavior Specialist, responsibilities focus on supporting campers’ emotional and behavioral needs. This includes developing strategies to help campers manage challenges, coaching staff on behavior management techniques, and intervening when necessary to promote positive camper interactions.
By combining medical care with behavioral support, this position plays a vital role in fostering a safe, healthy, and inclusive camp experience for all participants.
Responsibilities:
- Administer first aid and emergency medical care as needed.
- Dispense medications according to physician instructions and parent requests.
- Maintain detailed and confidential health records for campers and staff.
- Communicate with parents regarding camper health concerns or incidents.
- Ensure compliance with all state and local health regulations.
- Monitor and manage any infectious disease outbreaks or concerns.
- Provide training and guidance to staff on health and safety procedures.
- Assist with accommodations for campers with specific medical needs.
- Maintain an inventory of medical supplies and request replenishments as needed.
- Other duties assigned by supervisor.
- Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) preferred; EMT or paramedic certification may be acceptable.
- Experience working with children in a medical setting preferred.
- CPR and First Aid certification required.
