For over 45 years, The J’s Adult Day at the J (ADJ) program has offered the highest quality support services to the St. Louis Community. ADJ is an adult day service that offers two unique specialized program tracks, Connections for older adults with cognitive and physical challenges and IN for younger adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Both programs offer a variety of engaging activities in a welcoming environment that are geared to help our participants build upon and maintain their current knowledge, discover new abilities, cultivate personal growth, and develop friendships.
Position Overview
The Team Lead Direct Support Professional works closely with the Program Management team to oversee the daily operations and program implementation of our Adult Day Services at the Jewish Community Center. Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Team Lead Program Assistant will implement the daily programming schedule while ensuring adequate staffing ratios are maintained to effectively support the participant’s needs. Through the supervision of 4-5 direct support staff, the Team Lead will facilitate ongoing collaboration across the inter-disciplinary team to effectively coordinate activities both onsite and in the community. Additionally, this position will be responsible for coordination and daily communication with families to ensure that the participants are properly supported.

Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Team Lead is responsible for the following duties:
- Oversee the daily operations and implementation of all activities for the program.
- Collaborate across the team to plan, acquire supplies, prepare, and implement daily programs and activities.
- Support the development and utilization of support strategies, aids, and adaptations as aligned with the individualized goals for participants.
- Develop and implement strategies to ensure that maximum possible participant attendance is achieved daily.
- Supervise the Program Assistant team through effective communication, task assignment & management, and hands-on support throughout the day.
- Provide guidance to staff and volunteers to enable them to best support the participants.
- Develop and execute a thorough daily activity and staff assignment plan, while ensuring the plan and all changes are effectively communicated to all staff.
- Manage staff-to-participant ratios accordingly during activities and transitions between locations to ensure proper support is provided according to each participant’s needs and in accordance with licensure & regulations.
- Step in as needed for participant crisis situations.
- Provide direct support to participants, develop and lead program activities, and assist with participant supervision during all off-site activities.
- Provide quality customer service through prompt and consistent daily communication with parents/guardians/participants to discuss progress, answer questions, and address any concerns.
- Ensure Program Manager is notified of and receives ongoing communication regarding any concerns, issues, and/or incidents that occur throughout the day.
- Ensure compliance with licensure regulation documentation requirements is maintained through thorough and timely completion of daily and monthly reporting.
- Utilize and monitor the THERAP database system to ensure documentation and communication protocol are followed daily.
- Assist with new participant enrollment processes; including facilitation of trail visits and assessments.
- In the absence of the Program Manager will assist with developing, and implementing, individual support goals and plans through ISP and Care Plan meetings as needed.
- Attend mandatory trainings, weekly and monthly staff meetings, regular meetings with supervisor, and other program specific meetings.
- Complete all training as required by funding source and licensure regulations.
- Collaborate within the JCC to facilitate the most inclusive environment for new and existing programs.
- Adhere to all JCC and departmental policies.
- All other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- High School diploma or GED is required; related Associates or Bachelors degree is preferred.
- 1+ year(s) of experience working with relative population individuals with developmental/intellectual disabilities required.
- Working knowledge of medical conditions and diagnoses common among elderly and disabled populations is a plus.
- Prior experience working with the elderly, medically frail and/or people with various cognitive impairments such as dementia is strongly preferred.
- Prior experience with providing personal care assistance (i.e. toileting, physical transfers, etc.) is strongly preferred.
- Experience with development and implementation of individualized and person centered goals, preferred.
- Must have prior experience with planning and leading activities to the population served .
- Visual and auditory acuity with excellent communication skills to understand and interpret written and oral materials and instructions is required.
- Must have advanced computer skills (Database systems and Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Demonstrated ability to learn new computer applications is a must.
- Must have a teamwork mentality and excellent interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to assist with the restroom needs of participants.
- Physical ability to lift 40 pounds, transfer participants (on occasion up to 250 pounds) and assist participants with mobility.
- Must have the visual acuity to monitor participants and focus near and far.
