Summary:

New Jewish Theatre, the professional theatre at the J, is seeking a part-time Production Manager. The Production Manager will assist with season planning and scheduling, budgeting, contracting designers and technicians, and monitoring the progress of production elements while maintaining high standards for all productions. The Production Manager facilitates the overall production process while working with the Artistic Director and Technical Director to manage Scenery, Props, Scenic Art, Costumes, Electrics, Wigs, Hair and Make-up, Audio, Video, and/or Stage Management as part of New Jewish Theatre’s five-play season. Exact work hours will vary based on the production schedule and individual show needs.

Responsibilities:

Show Management

  • Assist with hiring and contracting designers and technical staff.
  • Schedule and lead design and production meetings for each play.
  • Attend technical rehearsals and dress rehearsals, helping to facilitate the technical process as needed. Coordinate post-rehearsal production meetings and arrange time for designers to do notes in space as necessary.
  • Communicate needed show information to House Manager, i.e., runtime, use of fog, strobe lights, intermission length, etc.
  • Manage New Jewish Theatre’s Dropbox and/or other file sharing to make sure design materials and photography are being shared with the appropriate people.
  • Check-in with designers and department heads to make sure progress is being made and aid when necessary.
  • Create and maintain contact sheets for each production.
  • Distribute scripts to designers and actors as needed.

Budget and Equipment Management

  • Work with Artistic Director to set appropriate budgets for designers, equipment, materials and labor, as well as monitor department expenses to ensure areas are staying within their budget.
  • Request cash budget advances for designers and technicians as necessary and reconcile expenses.
  • Maintain stock of general theatre supplies, including but not limited to first aid equipment, coffee and tea, etc.

Season Overview

  • In collaboration with A.D. and T.D., create and maintain the yearly production calendar, including rehearsal and production dates, meeting dates, dates of publicity photos and invited rehearsals, etc.
  • In collaboration with A.D. and T.D., create and disseminate information on when design materials are due, and make sure designers are turning in design materials according to their deadlines.

Facilities

  • Coordinate with J Buildings and Grounds staff to schedule regular cleanings of theatre and dressing rooms.
  • Make sure theatre space is cleaned and reset following close of production.
  • Maintain incident reporting and safety standards according to J protocols.
  • Ensure consistent training for production staff (board ops, stagehands, etc.) to make sure they are aware of NJT and J policies and procedures.
  • Create room reservations as needed when other parts of the J facility are required for rehearsals, work hours, or special events.

General

  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS in Theatre Production or related field.
  • Experience working in Production in a professional theatre environment.
  • Experience with Project Management.
  • General understanding of budgets.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Knowledge of One Drive, Dropbox and/or Google Drive is a plus.
  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings such as ground plans and light plots.
  • Excellent people skills, with the ability to stay calm in a sometimes-stressful environment.
  • Very good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and organize.
  • Knowledge of and experience with St. Louis theatre community is a plus.
