This position requires an energetic, organized, and highly motivated Sports Programs Specialist / Physical Education Teacher Assistant to support our elementary physical education program, lunchtime sports activities, and after-school sports clinics.The candidate must be passionate about working with children, has experience in education, and possesses a strong athletic and/or professional sports background. This individual will help foster a positive school culture through movement, teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy active living.Position Overview- The Physical Education Teacher Assistant & Sports Programs Specialist will work collaboratively with the Physical Education Department and school administration to:- Support daily physical education classes- Assist with skill development and sports instruction- Organize and supervise lunchtime sports activities- Plan and lead after-school sports clinics and intramurals- Promote student participation, teamwork, confidence, and physical wellness- Ensure a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all studentsKey ResponsibilitiesPhysical Education Support- Assist the Physical Education teacher during elementary gym classes- Help prepare and organize equipment, stations, and lesson materials- Demonstrate drills, exercises, warm-ups, and sport-specific techniques- Support differentiated instruction for students with varying skill levels and abilities- Reinforce school expectations related to teamwork, sportsmanship, inclusion, and safety- Supervise students during transitions, gym activities, and outdoor programming- Replace physical education teacher when they are absentLunchtime Sports Activities- Organize and supervise structured lunchtime sports and recreational activities- Encourage broad student participation and positive peer interaction- Create engaging age-appropriate activities for elementary students- Manage equipment setup, storage, and daily organization- Maintain a safe and respectful environment during all activitiesAfter-School Sports Clinics & Intramurals- Plan and lead after-school sports clinics, practices, and intramural programs- Develop progressive training sessions focused on skill development, teamwork, conditioning, and game strategy- Design age-appropriate drills for sports such as basketball, soccer, volleyball, hockey, track and field, fitness training, and other school-based athletic programs- Teach proper athletic techniques, movement patterns, coordination, agility, and sport fundamentals- Monitor student progress and adapt activities to support varying skill levels- Prepare practice plans and maintain organized routines and schedules- Help coordinate equipment, team organization, schedules, and communication with families when neededSafety & Student Development- Ensure all activities follow school safety protocols and standards- Monitor student well-being and respond appropriately to injuries or incidents- Promote positive coaching methods and student confidence- Serve as a positive role model for students both on and off the field/gymQualifications & Requirements- Experience working with elementary-aged children in a school, camp, coaching, or educational setting- Previous teaching experience or educational support experience required- Professional, competitive, collegiate, or high-level sports background strongly preferred- Strong knowledge of physical education principles, sports training, and youth athletic development- Ability to plan and implement structured drills, practices, and movement activities- Strong classroom and behavior management skills- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills- Positive, energetic, and team-oriented attitude- Ability to motivate and engage young students in physical activity- Current CPR/First Aid certification is necessary- Bilingualism - French is necessaryCharacteristics- Demonstrates leadership, initiative, and professionalism- Is enthusiastic about athletics, wellness, and child development- Creates an inclusive and encouraging environment for all students- Understands the importance of balancing competition, teamwork, and fun- Is organized, dependable, and flexible within a dynamic school environmentSchedule- Approximately 27–32 hours per week- Combination of school-day support, lunchtime supervision, and after-school programming- Some flexibility may be required depending on sports schedules and special eventsHow to ApplyInterested candidates should submit their résumé and cover letter to mdoughan@ssamontreal.org.
