Sixth & I is seeking a full-time Assistant Director of Jewish Life to join our Jewish Life team to manage our wide array of programs and community-building endeavors for our target demographic of Jewish young professionals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Department Management:

  • Support Senior Rabbi in implementing their vision for Jewish Life at Sixth & I.
  • Collaborate with rabbis and organizational leadership to identify strategic goals and objectives for the Jewish Life team.
  • Develop and manage team budget, striving to maximize value while mitigating risks/costs.
  • Coordinate and run weekly team meetings and recurring retreats.
  • Serve as key Jewish Life point of contact for other Sixth & I departments.
  • Manage hiring processes for Jewish Life programming team.
  • Serve as direct supervisor for Jewish Life’s Associate and Manager.

Programming:

  • Strategically create and refine systems to ensure exceptional programming.
  • Oversee all High Holiday related programming and convene staff from across departments to foster collaborative efforts.
  • Directly support Jewish Life programming by serving on regular staff rotation for Friday nights and holidays (typically two nights per week or weekends as dictated by programming calendar).
  • Work in partnership with Development department in writing Jewish Life program grants, enacting program evaluation, and identifying new opportunities for funding.
  • Evaluate, select, and negotiate contracts with venues and suppliers.
  • Identify opportunities for new and innovative programming.

Community-building:

  • Develop and manage key partnerships with local Jewish organizations in support of advancing Sixth & I’s goals.
  • Understand trends among millennials in DC and Jewish community that affect our programs and participants.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Sixth & I staff, constituents, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop and streamline system for team to track and manage relationships with constituents and other stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Three to five years of relevant work experience
  • Minimum two years of experience coaching, mentoring, or formally managing other adults in a professional setting
  • Experience creating systems and processes to help a team successfully meet its goals
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Motivated self-starter
  • Ability to multitask and manage time efficiently
  • Experience executing programming in a communal setting
