Overview

The Legal Liaison Program was developed to meet the complex legal needs of SHALVA clients. The majority of SHALVA’s clients requiring legal representation do not qualify for free legal services through legal aid, but also do not have the ability to pay for the lengthy legal representation that their cases often require. Consequently, SHALVA created a program, unlike any offered in the Chicago area, which specifically meets the needs of our clients by providing legal education, referrals and limited legal representation.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The In House Attorney / Legal Liaison will work with clients in a consultative manner and provide extended legal services for a limited number of clients. This is a 25-30 hour per week position and will report to the Clinical Director.

The Liaison assists SHALVA clients in being active participants in the legal process. The Liaison explains how the legal system works, assists as a “translator” of legal documents, and collaborates with clinical staff to provide coordinated services. The Liaison will also provide a limited number of SHALVA clients with direct legal representation through our extended legal services program, as described below.
