Compensation

We’ll pay you an annual salary of $58,000 to $63,000.

About the Job

The JFS Clinical Therapist provides counseling and therapy to JFS clients weekly through individual, family, and group interventions. The primary population served is clients aged 55 and older. This role includes delivering client-centered social services, education, and professional services in a collaborative community setting and linking clients to integrated services and community resources that address their individual needs. The therapist will have the opportunity to collaborate with and provide consultation and other behavioral health services to our on-site educational and social programs serving older adults and community.

You’ll wow us by masterfully performing the following key duties and responsibilities:

Essential functions:

  • Counseling: Perform on-site and/or remote telehealth counseling services to Jewish Family Service clients, in accordance with agency policies. Service demographics are primarily clients aged 55 and older. Interventions may include individual, couple, family, and group therapy, as well as crisis intervention.
  • General Direct Service: Provide additional social services to clients as needed, such as advocacy, service linkage, referrals, and collaboration with other providers. Maintain knowledge of current resources in the Greater Austin area.
  • Collaboration: Partner closely with fellow JFS staff and all Shalom Austin staff to serve the needs of clients and community. Participate meaningfully in meetings, trainings, and supervision and offer coverage for JFS team members when needed.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain professional and timely documentation of services in an electronic medical record, including but not limited to, intake notes, progress notes, treatment plans, termination notes, contract notes, and other forms or documents which may be needed or required. Track and use program-related data to enhance service effectiveness.
  • Community Outreach and Education: Collaborate with other institutions and professionals in the Jewish community, and in the Austin mental health and social services network. Engage in ongoing outreach and community engagement through implementation of psychoeducation, community events, collaboration, and networking.

Supervisory responsibilities: No direct reports; interested and qualified therapists may have opportunities to clinically supervise graduate student interns or associate-level clinicians.

Work environment: Perform in-office and/or remote telehealth social services, in accordance with agency policies. For those working remotely, a private space is necessary to maintain client confidentiality.

Physical demands: Must be able to meet routine office physical demands including climbing stairs and possessing the dexterity and vision to operate office computers and equipment.

Position type and expected hours of work: full time Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, attend occasional organization events and programs occur on evenings and weekends, as requested. No overtime offered.

Travel: some travel to the office or JCC campus may be necessary, if working remotely

Requirements
  • Graduated from an accredited college or university with a Master's or Doctoral level degree in social work, psychology, counseling or related human service field.
  • Licensure to practice in good standing in the State of Texas (LMSW, LCSW, LPC-A, LPC, LMFT-A, LMFT, PhD, PsyD)
  • Experience counseling adults, couples, and families with a variety of mental health needs.
  • Excellent time management and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfort working both independently and with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Comfort and competency in telehealth.

Preferred education and experience:

  • Working knowledge of Greater Austin mental health and social service resources and referrals.
  • Cultural competence with Judaism or Jewish culture.
