Compensation

We’ll pay you an annual salary of $60,000 to $65,000.

(Position is expected to begin in Jan 2026.)

About the Job

The Athletic Director (AD) is responsible for leading, managing, and growing the Athletics Department with a primary focus on basketball programming, JCC Maccabi, and JCamps. This role requires a dynamic and organized leader who can recruit and engage participants, develop staff, and deliver high-quality programming that reflects the mission and values of the JCC.

Basketball Programs:

  • Oversee, manage, and grow participation in the JCC’s two in-house basketball leagues: Rising Stars and Little Rookies.
  • Recruit, hire, and train staff and coaches for all basketball programs.
  • Actively recruit participants to increase program enrollment.
  • Teach a minimum of two Little Dribbler’s classes for Early Childhood Program (ECP) aged children each week during the Fall and Spring.
  • Coach and run the Basketball Skills Clinic throughout the course of the year.
  • Work to create new programming to drive revenue in basketball, including but not limited to a 3 on 3 tournament, specialized clinics, Elite Skills clinics, etc.
  • Evaluate the need for Adult Basketball league and create a league, if there is enough interest.

JCC Maccabi:

  • Serve as the Team Austin Delegation Head for JCC Maccabi.
  • Attend Delegation Head (DH) meetings. This includes DH Meetings on Zoom and travel in the spring to the DH Meeting at the host city.
  • Recruit athletes and hit annual target goals for participation. This will require in-home visits/Information sessions between November-January.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with families regarding tryouts, registration, scheduling, and program details to ensure a smooth participant, and family, experience.
  • Recruit, prepare, and support volunteer coaches.
  • Provide monthly communication with JCC Maccabi families
  • Travel to JCC Maccabi Friday – Friday during the week of the games and serve as the liaison for parents and athletes, with the goal of providing a fun, meaningful, and safe experience for all athletes.

JCamps & Kids Connection:

  • Play an integral role on JCamps Administrative team, year-round.
  • Serve on the JCamps leadership team, directing all in-house sports camps and managing sports camp staff, in addition to providing overall support to the summer JCamps program. Including, but not limited to, morning & afternoon carpool, all-camp activities, and special events/theme days.
  • Lead recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluation of all sports counselors.
  • Develop and provide detailed activity & curriculum plans for Soccer, Basketball, and Maccabi Camps, ensuring age-appropriate teaching, drills, and competitive play in a fun and inclusive environment.
  • Plan, implement and execute a week-long staff orientation in partnership with the JCamps Admin team, the week prior to the start of camp.
  • In partnership with Director of Tennis and Pickleball, develop activity plans for Tennis Camp staff to implement outside of tennis pro led lessons.
  • Attend weekly JCamps planning and staff meetings.
  • Oversee and lead athletics activities during JCamps Break Camps.
  • Teach one monthly sports class for the JCamps Afterschool program.

Facility Management:

  • Oversee the Gymnasium schedule and keep an up-to-date version online and in the gym.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the gym, set-up, and upkeep.
  • Manage all field rentals with outside organizations and schools, communicating with points of contact, ensuring good field conditions, and maintaining up to date payment records.
  • Ensure continuity of facility management for JCamps and all other Dell JCC programs while attending JCC Maccabi Games.
Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Recreation, Education, or related field (preferred).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in athletics, youth programming, or camp leadership.
  • Strong basketball knowledge and coaching experience.
  • Demonstrated success in recruiting and managing staff, volunteers, and program participants.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • Commitment to creating a positive, inclusive, and engaging experience for youth and families.
