About the Job

The Volunteer Manager is an exempt, full-time role under Shalom Austin Jewish Family Service (JFS). Under the direction of the Case Management and Community Support Director, this position will play an important role in overseeing the Shalom Austin volunteer experience and serving as a “volunteering concierge” by meeting, greeting, directing, and connecting people to resources and opportunities that best match their interests within the Jewish community. This position will manage the Shalom Austin volunteer program to expand opportunities and engage a diverse representation of the community. The Volunteer Manager will be the staff lead for Shalom Austin organizational programs and develop strong collaborative relationships with colleagues and volunteer leaders across departments. You’ll wow us by masterfully performing the following key duties and responsibilities:

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Collaboration and Leadership

  • Design and implement strategies to recruit, engage, and retain a diverse pool of volunteers, aligning service opportunities with Shalom Austin’s mission and strategic priorities.
  • Onboarding and training of new volunteers and facilitating ongoing communication with volunteers.
  • Create, coordinate, evaluate and manage volunteer logistics of specified volunteer programs and serve as the staff volunteer lead for Shalom Austin affinity groups (YAD, Shalom Families, etc.)
  • Coordinates JFS client-centered volunteering needs in direct partnership with the Case Management team.
  • Schedules Shalom Austin and JFS employees and volunteers for staffing Shalom Austin events.
  • Oversee the volunteer database, ensuring accurate tracking of participation and hours for community members and volunteer leaders (Lay Leaders). Use data analysis to inform program planning and reporting to leadership.
  • Coordinates the logistics of a volunteer program, including expenses, site selections, registrations, and pre-and post- communications with participants
  • Develop and deliver Jewish-rooted service-learning opportunities, ensuring programs are educational, meaningful, and mission-driven.
  • Pursue continuing education opportunities to strengthen professional skills and bring innovative practices in volunteer engagement to the organization.
  • Lead communication efforts for volunteer engagement, including a strong social media presence and creating e-newsletters.
  • Ability to work evenings and occasional Sundays for events or meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • 1+ years of experience in volunteer coordination, programming, or nonprofit/social service roles.
  • Knowledge of Jewish religion, traditions, and culture, and the ability to apply that knowledge in a community service context.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop meaningful relationships with diverse community members.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while also thriving in a team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with basic data management and comfort learning volunteer management systems.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and perform duties in both office and event settings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a social service or nonprofit management field.
  • 1+ years of data entry and database management experience.
  • Prior experience in volunteer recruitment, training, and retention.
  • Event coordination experience, including logistics and budgeting.
