SAR High School, located in Riverdale, New York, is a mission-driven, co-educational, modern Orthodox Jewish high school committed to student-centered learning in a challenging and supportive environment. For the 2026-27 academic year, SAR High School is seeking a Rosh Beit Midrash.
The Rosh Beit Midrash (RBM) will raise the profile of the Beit Midrash as the center and foundation of SAR High School. The RBM will work with students and staff to develop creative programming that engages a wide range of students. Essentially the RBM will create more opportunities for students to engage in Torah learning in ways that are fun, accessible, creative and lishma. The RBM will oversee all aspects of programmed Torah learning designed to take place outside of the classroom. As Director of the Beit Midrash Fellows Program, the RBM supervises six recent college graduates who learn throughout the day with small groups of students and engage in their own Torah learning.
The RBM is a self-starter and creative thinker who is deeply committed to the mission of spreading Torah. As an excellent communicator the RBM will forge meaningful connections with students and teachers. The RBM is an excellent and proven classroom teacher with 4 plus years of experience who has served in leadership capacities.
Beit Midrash Presence
- Serve as a presence and resource for students and Beit Midrash fellows
- Work with teachers to develop greater Beit Midrash presence
Increase Learning Opportunities in Beit Midrash
- Expand our program of lunch chaburot
- Create Torah learning opportunities when students have free time and encourage attendance
- Develop a cadre of students who will work under the guidance of the RBM to deepen their own learning opportunities and to create opportunities for fellow students
Director of Beit Midrash Fellows Program
- Recruitment and onboarding of Beit Midrash fellows
- Mentoring and supervision of Beit Midrash fellows individually and as a group, including providing feedback
- Coordination of a weekly seminar for Beit Midrash fellows focusing on issues in Modern Orthodox education.
- Teach a weekly shiur to Beit Midrash fellows
- Interface between Beit Midrash fellows and Judaic Studies teachers
Beit Midrash Space
- Ensure Beit Midrash is welcoming, well-organized and easy to navigate
Encourage and Celebrate Torah achievements
- Celebrate student siyyumim including involving parents in students’ Torah achievements
Itim
- Oversee our twice-weekly after school Itim Torah learning program, including organizing chaburot and ensuring the program runs smoothly
Organize and Encourage Outside of School Torah Opportunities
- Actively seek out outside of school Torah-related experiences for students
Alumni Torah learning
- Facilitate weekly Friday visits of SAR HS alumni to learn with students
- Coordinate Torah learning opportunities for alumni returning at Thanksgiving, Pesach and at the end of the school year.
Teaching
- The RBM will teach 2-3 Gemara / Tanakh classes
100000 - 110000 USD a year
The salary is $100-110,000 and is commensurate with experience.
