The Jewish Federation of Southern New Jersey (JFEDSNJ) invites accomplished, strategic, and mission-driven financial leaders to apply for the role of Chief Financial Officer (CFO). As a key member of the executive leadership team, the CFO will play a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s financial future and strengthening its ability to serve a vibrant and evolving Jewish community.

The CFO will serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, Board of Directors, and senior leadership, driving financial strategy, ensuring fiscal integrity, and positioning the organization for long-term sustainability and growth.
The ideal candidate is not only an experienced nonprofit financial executive, but also a collaborative leader who understands the importance of community, relationships, and values-based decision-making. Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight of all financial operations for JFEDSNJ and its affiliated entities
- Serve as a key thought partner to the CEO and Board of Directors, contributing to organizational strategy and long-term planning
- Lead the development and execution of the annual budget, multi-year financial planning, and forecasting processes
- Oversee all accounting operations, ensuring full compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards, as well as strong internal controls
- Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial reporting, including monthly and annual financial statements, donor reporting, external audits, and regulatory filings (including IRS Form 990)
- Develop and implement innovative financial strategies to support growth, sustainability, and mission impact
- Oversee audits, regulatory compliance, and adherence to donor requirements and best practices in nonprofit finance
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Safeguard organizational assets and continuously strengthen financial systems, policies, and procedures
- Build strong, collaborative relationships across departments to support effective, data-informed decision-making
- Actively participate in Board of Directors and committee meetings, including preparing and presenting financial materials and insights
- Serve as a visible and engaged leader within the organization and broader community
- This role requires flexibility and a strong commitment to organizational leadership, including the ability to attend Board meetings, committee meetings, and key Federation events that may take place during evenings or outside of standard business hours
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10+ years of executive financial leadership experience, including prior service as a Chief Financial Officer
- Progressive career in accounting and finance with increasing scope of responsibility and organizational impact
- Demonstrated experience within a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, with strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards, compliance, and regulatory requirements
- Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA certification strongly preferred
- Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing teams, with a track record of building strong finance functions
- Extensive experience in short- and long-term financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and strategic analysis
- Strong financial acumen with advanced analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex financial information clearly to executive leadership, board members, and community stakeholders
- High level of integrity, sound judgment, and commitment to organizational mission and values
- Familiarity with Jewish communal organizations, culture, and values strongly preferred
Technical Skills
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, as well as Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Experience with financial and enterprise systems such as Sage Intacct, ADP Workforce Now, QuickBooks, and similar platforms; familiarity with SAGE accounting software preferred
- Strong understanding of financial systems, data integrity, and reporting functionality
