Reports to: Food Service Director JCC Camps at Medford
Pay RATE: $5150 for the summer --- $130 daily
Position Summary
The Assistant Food Service Director supports the daily operation of the camp kitchen. This role combines hands-on kitchen work with staff supervision and helps ensure meals are prepared safely, efficiently, and in accordance with camp policies and Kashrut standards.
Pre-Camp Responsibilities
• Assist with kitchen setup and organization
• Support inventory and supply preparation
• Participate in leadership meetings as requested
• Assist with orientation planning and staff onboarding
• Support interviewing and hiring of food service staff as needed
During Camp – Daily Kitchen Operations
• Help oversee preparation and distribution of lunches, snacks, and frozen treats
• Assist with cooking and food preparation tasks
• Ensure food is prepared in appropriate quantities and minimize waste
• Assist with packaging meals for travel programs and late stay meals
• Assist with unloading and storing deliveries
Staff Supervision
• Provide daily support and guidance to cooks and food service staff
• Help create and manage daily staff assignments
• Train staff on food safety, allergy protocols, sanitation, and Kosher guidelines
• Model professionalism and teamwork
• Communicate staff concerns to the Food Service Director
Health, Safety & Compliance
• Ensure NJ Department of Health, ServSafe, allergy safety, and Kashrut guidelines are followed
• Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen environment
• Monitor safe use of commercial kitchen equipment
• Remain aware of emergency procedures and report concerns immediately
Camp Community
• Provide excellent customer service to campers and staff
• Maintain professionalism around campers
• Uphold camp values and assist with other duties as needed
Qualifications
• Prior kitchen or food service leadership experience preferred
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
• Experience in Kosher food service preferred
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to lift 30+ lbs and work with commercial kitchen equipment
