Job Description:
The Early Childhood Camps at the Katz JCC is the perfect place for little campers aged 2-6 to build their imagination, creativity, and curiosity. Our early childhood camp takes place on the Katz JCC campus at 1301 Springdale Road in Cherry Hill, NJ. We offer a combination of indoor and outdoor programming, daily swim, arts & crafts, gym, and STEM all within weekly themes enhancing a Jewish day camp experience.
We are HIRING for Summer Camp Assistant Counselors! Competitive salaries and membership to the Katz JCC gym for the length of your contract. Our summer staff plays an important role in creating fun, engaging, and exciting days for our campers. Head counselors lead their bunks in teamwork with assistant counselors.
Early Childhood Summer Camp Assistant Counselor Job Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality educational and recreational opportunities and enjoyable experiences for camp participants.
- Supervise campers and ensure their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
- Maintain a schedule for camp participants lead by the Head Counselor
- Support various small and large group activities
- Ensure the cleanliness of the site following state licensing health and hygiene procedures
- Assist in maintaining accurate camper records, including incident reports, and daily attendance via our Tadpole Software.
- Understand all emergency procedures associated with the camp program
- Mediate camper conflict and challenges with the help of the Head Counselor.
- Enforce and follows all safety guidelines associated with the camp program including always knowing the whereabouts of campers.
- Participate in all camper activities, including daily swim, gym, playground, and more.
- Assist with daily toileting and potty-training needs, as well as daily swim changes.
- Always maintain constant surveillance of the pool.
Camp Counselor Qualifications / Skills:
- Must be 17 years of age or older
- Experience in a camp setting a plus
- Comfortable with indoor and outdoor active environment
- Able to lift children 40 lbs. multiple times per day
- Experience or willingness to learn diaper changing and potty-training skills
- Strong character values, communication skills, emotional maturity
Important Dates:
- Mandatory summer camp prep days: June 15, 16, 17, 2026
- Summer Camp runs from June 22 – August 14, 2026
- All summer camp counselors must be available for at least 7 of the 8 weeks of camp.
