We are seeking a physical education teacher (75-100% FTE) to join our community of educators. We are seeking an experienced physical education teacher who has knowledge of progressive educational environments and will help every student thrive. The ideal candidate will also have proficiency in the Hebrew language so students are supported in their work toward fluency. Wornick’s Hebrew language curriculum prepares our graduates to be conversationally proficient in Hebrew. Our teaching methodology is based on best practices recommended by the American Council of the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) with a focus on speaking and comprehension. Substantive research shows that students experience cognitive benefits as a result of second language learning, particularly when the target language is so different from the native language with a different alphabet and directionality. At Wornick Hebrew language learning extends beyond the classroom and comes to life in many ways at Wornick including physical education. The physical education school teacher will:- Provide an instructional program based on the needs of each student, geared toward age-appropriate movement and learning at each grade level- Implement our school adopted programs as the base curriculum for the grade- Design engaging curriculum that supports the base curriculum and meets the school’s guiding principles- Create and maintain positive relationships with students, families, and other teachers- Differentiate effectively for diverse learners in the classroom and on the field or court- Assess students learning frequently and effectively to ensure grade level standards are being met- Create engaging lesson and unit plans under the supervision of the Assistant Head of School, Director of Athletics, and other educational leaders at the school- Document student learning on student assessments and progress- Utilize multi-modal methods of instruction and learning in recognition of the diverse ways students learn- Assist the administration in creating a respectful school environment in support of the behavioral and cultural policies of the school- Provide appropriate and engaging individualized work for students in support of plans created with parents, tutors, aides, and specialists- Collaborate with grade level peers to support students, integrate learning across multiple subject areas and create a holistic grade level experience- Recognize parents as critical partners in student learning and utilize support services within the school- Use technology appropriately to advance learning goals- Attend all staff meetings and fulfill other duties assigned by the Assistant Head of School (recess duties, club supervision etc)- Receive and provide feedback in a professional manner with other school professionals The ideal candidate will:- Have 2+ years of classroom experience as a physical education teacher- Have a Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred)- Have a California Teaching Credential (preferred)- Be familiar with progressive educational approaches (Project Based Learning, student centered classroom, flipped classroom, etc.)- Have experience in lesson planning and curriculum design- Experience with Google Classroom, G Suite, and other LMS a plus- Be proficient in the Hebrew language- Possess a love of learning and a passion for engaging students- Have experience differentiation for diverse classroom learners- Be a collaborative team member who will seek advice from peers and rely on the professional expertise of our administrators and support services- First aid/CPR a plus- Experience with independent schools is a plus! Compensation and Benefits:- Salary for this position is determined by years of experience and credentials. Our range for this position depending on percentage of FTE is between $78,000 and $89,000- Additional benefit stipend to assist with retirement contributions, dependant benefits or taken as taxable compensation- Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental and vision, life and AD&D, 403b retirement plan, and employee assistant program- Significant tuition remission for employee children enrolled at Wornick
