Beren Academy in Houston, Texas is seeking a strong, organized, positive, and flexible Director of Student Support and Intervention as we build out our program to be a robust and structured student support program that includes academic gaps, a neurodiverse subset of students, and English as a Second Language learners.
Robert M. Beren Academy is looking for a director who represents and advocates for the student body. The director will provide leadership and support in meeting the tiered needs of students in the areas of: behavioral development, academic development for students with gaps in their learning, and overall student well-being. Analyzes the needs of students across all grade levels and assists personnel in developing, implementing, and analyzing the ongoing effectiveness of support services. Partners with the educational leaders and teaching team to build, implement, and analyze academic support interventions that enable students with gaps in their learning to make progress and move toward academic proficiency.
Job Responsibilities
- Ability to effectively direct, plan, implement, and evaluate programs in a school-based environment.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead people and provide direction.
- Collaborates with the educational leaders and teaching team.
- Analyzes quantitative and qualitative formative and summative data to determine the needs of students.
- Oversees the school based standardized testing program.
- Builds and evaluates tiers of academic support for students who need interventions.
- Collaborates with the counseling team.
- Partners and collaborates with other departments, school principals, other personnel, and external stakeholders.
- Determines and develops priorities for improvement in the assigned areas and development of school-wide goals and initiatives to meet those goals.
- Analyzes the ongoing implementation of initiatives to make mid-course adjustments to have maximum impact on students.
- Supervise the student services staff and collaborate with Title/Catapult personnel.
- Manages and tracks a budget.
- Understands and stays up-to-date on federal and state laws related to exceptional student education, 504, and IEPs.
- Works with the Houston Independent School District and other external agencies to obtain students evaluations and accommodations.
- Communicates with parents and families that utilize the student support services.
- Builds and implements supports for English Language Learners in and outside of the classroom.
- Manages the schedule and locations of all external service providers.
Job Skills & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with 3 years of teaching experience preferred.
- Organized, capable, hardworking multitasker preferred.
- Ability to be flexible and adapt as needed.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas and experience.
- Strong communication skills.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work.
