Title: Tech Lead / Lead Engineer

Recustom’s mission is to revolutionize home-based Jewish rituals, empowering individuals to craft diverse, unique experiences by offering accessible, easy-to-use, and sophisticated design tools. We are at an exciting stage in our organization’s evolution, looking to substantially grow our programmatic footprint by scaling and expanding our SaaS Platform to reach all aspects of Jewish life and DIY rituals. About the Role

We are looking for a mission driven and technically proficient Tech Lead to oversee the design, development, and delivery of scalable software systems across our stack. This role is a blend of hands-on engineering, technical decision-making, and team leadership. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including Product, Design, and QA to shape architecture, set coding standards, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality features.

Availability is required between 9am and 1pm Eastern M-Fri, as well as flexible hours to collaborate with global partners and during holidays.

Responsibilities/Deliverables

• Technical Leadership: Drive architectural decisions and ensure alignment with business goals. Champion best practices in coding, testing, deployment, and observability. Lead all things DevOps and infrastructure, including CI/CD, cloud deployments, data engineering, and site reliability.
• Capacity Planning: Provide technical input into the quarterly planning process (OKRs) from a technical feasibility and program increment (PI) standpoint
• Team Oversight: Lead a multidisciplinary team (frontend, backend, QA), providing mentorship, code reviews, and technical guidance.
• System Architecture: Design and evolve the technical architecture for performance, scalability, and maintainability while maintaining proper documentation.
• Cross-Team Collaboration: Partner with Product and Design to align on goals and trade-offs. Collaborate with DevOps and Infrastructure for CI/CD, cloud deployments, and reliability.
• Quality & Delivery: Ensure deliverables are tested, secure, performant, and meet SLAs. Balance velocity with sustainable technical health. Provide timely root cause analysis (RCA).
• Tooling and Process: Drive improvements in developer tooling, build/test pipelines, and project management workflows

About You

• A balanced full-stack developer with a strong backend foundation and product-focused engineering
• Familiar with the tradeoffs of modern software patterns like event-driven / reactive systems, API-first development, and microservices
• Strong technical acumen, specifically with the needs of B2B SaaS systems
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as an engineer—preferably also as a tech lead
• Highly detail-oriented, accurate, organized
• Strong visual, verbal, and written communication skills, both to other engineers and to non-technical stakeholders
• Receptive to both receive and provide continuous feedback (i.e. 360)
• Flexible and adaptable to meet changing needs
• Ability to estimate levels of effort, and deliver on commitments

• Fluent or better in English (speaking, writing) required

Experience

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in software engineering, with a track record of technical leadership.
• 2+ years of technical leadership or engineering management
• 1+ years building multi-tenant SaaS platforms required
• Proficiency in TypeScript (React/functional components) and NextJS; deep experience building and scaling full-stack applications.
• Experience designing APIs (GraphQL, REST) and integrating with modern cloud services. Backend development experience required.
• Strong knowledge of AWS required.
• Strong knowledge of Auth0 (IAM) required..
• Agile development experience required
• Strong SQL and data modeling skills; relational database knowledge required, Postgres SQL preferred
• Working knowledge of infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, and observability tooling. Experience with tools like Terraform is a plus.
• Familiarity with modern testing practices and test automation.
• Ability to break down complex projects into clear technical plans, scope future features, and lead others through execution.
• Effective communicator and mentor, with a collaborative approach to leadership.
• Experience releasing production code and managing lower dev environments
