The Senior Membership Manager provides leadership, strategic direction, and oversight for the Osher Marin JCC's Membership function. Reporting to the General Manager, this role is responsible for developing and implementing strategies that drive membership growth, retention, revenue, and an exceptional member experience. The Senior Membership Manager leads the Membership team and oversees departmental operations, budget, systems, and service standards, ensuring effective execution, clear accountability, and alignment with organizational goals.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead overall Membership strategy and operations, with accountability for membership growth, retention, revenue, service delivery, and the member experience.
  • Develop and manage the annual Membership budget and revenue goals, monitor financial performance, provide accurate forecasts, and identify opportunities to strengthen results.
  • Develop and implement strategies to grow membership through effective prospect acquisition, conversion, onboarding, engagement, and retention.
  • Lead and develop the Membership team, including staff focused on membership growth, retention, and experience and the combined member-services/front-desk team, providing clear expectations, coaching, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Establish and maintain consistent standards for member service across front-line touchpoints, ensuring a welcoming, responsive, and high-quality experience for members and guests.
  • Oversee the development and execution of a cross-trained member-services model across the Membership and Fitness desks, ensuring effective staffing, scheduling, coverage, training, and consistent execution.
  • Ensure effective systems and accountability for membership administrative functions, including enrollment, renewals, account changes, freezes, cancellations, collections, and other ongoing account management responsibilities.
  • Develop and oversee strategies to strengthen member retention, proactively identify members at risk of leaving, understand drivers of attrition, and implement approaches that increase engagement and long-term membership.
  • Partner with the Experience Manager to establish goals and strategies for member recruitment, sales, retention, and engagement, and provide leadership and accountability for results.
  • Regularly gather and evaluate member feedback, identify trends and opportunities, and translate insights into improvements to programs, services, systems, and the overall member experience.
  • Track, analyze, and report on key membership performance indicators, including membership trends, acquisition, conversion, retention, attrition, engagement, and revenue, using data to inform strategy and decision-making.
  • Build and optimize Membership systems, processes, workflows, and use of technology to support efficient operations, effective staff execution, and a seamless member experience.
  • Partner with Marketing to develop effective membership acquisition, retention, and communication strategies and ensure a clear and compelling articulation of the value of JCC membership.
  • Collaborate with leaders across the organization to strengthen the member journey, identify opportunities for deeper engagement, and ensure Membership is effectively integrated with programs and services throughout the JCC.
  • Ensure adherence to membership agreements, policies, procedures, and organizational standards while identifying opportunities to improve policies and practices as member and organizational needs evolve.
  • Participate as an active member of the Osher Marin JCC full-time professional team, including staff meetings, organizational events, Manager on Duty responsibilities, and support of broader organizational priorities as needed.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in membership, sales, customer/member experience, hospitality, fitness/wellness, or a related field, with demonstrated leadership responsibility.
  • 5+ years of management experience
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing staff, establishing clear expectations, and building accountable, high-performing teams.
  • Experience developing and managing budgets, revenue goals, forecasts, and other key performance measures.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute strategies that drive growth, retention, revenue, and/or customer engagement.
  • Strong operational judgment with the ability to build effective systems, processes, and workflows while maintaining focus on the member experience.
  • Data-informed and comfortable using CRM, membership management, reporting, and other technology platforms to understand performance and drive decision-making.
  • Exceptional relationship-building and customer-service skills with the ability to effectively engage a diverse community of members, prospective members, and staff.
  • Strategic thinker with strong execution skills; able to manage multiple priorities, solve problems, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; personable, collaborative, adaptable, and team-oriented.
  • Familiarity with Jewish community, culture, and traditions preferred.

Position and Compensation

  • Full-time onsite exempt management level position
  • Salary range $90,000 - $100,000 annually, based on experience
  • Allowance toward health, dental, vision insurance; life and disability insurance; Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)
  • 22 vacation days, 13 sick days plus approximately 15 national and Jewish holidays per year
