Key ResponsibilitiesMontessori Program Implementation
- Create and maintain a prepared Montessori environment that supports the developmental needs of infants and toddlers.
- Plan and implement age-appropriate Montessori curriculum based on observation and developmental goals.
- Provide individualized lessons and experiences using Montessori materials and philosophy.
- Document observations and progress for each child and use documentation to inform instruction.
Child Supervision & Care
- Provide constant visual supervision of all children; maintain a safe and engaging classroom.
- Ensure routines (feeding, diapering/toileting, rest, transitions) are consistent with individual needs and developmental rhythms.
- Promote independence, exploration, and self-confidence in young children.
- Maintain proper teacher-child ratios per Title 22 requirements at all times.
Family Communication & Community
- Establish and maintain professional, respectful communication with families.
- Conduct parent conferences and share regular updates on children’s progress.
- Foster a welcoming, inclusive environment for families.
Compliance & Safety
- Comply with all California Title 22 licensing regulations, including documentation, health and safety policies, and training requirements.
- Maintain accurate records for immunizations, health checks, incident/accident reports, and developmental documentation.
- Ensure the classroom is clean, organized, hazard-free, and in compliance with sanitation and safety standards.
- Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development.
Minimum Qualifications (Title 22 Compliance)Education & Licensing
One of the following is required:
- Completion of at least 12 postsecondary semester units in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field, with a minimum of three units related to infants, from an accredited college/university; and at least six months of experience in a licensed infant or child care program; OR
- A current and valid Child Development Associate (CDA) credential with the appropriate infant/toddler age-level endorsement and at least six months of on-the-job experience in a licensed child care setting; OR
- A Child Development Permit (e.g., Associate Teacher or higher) issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing as defined in Title 22.
Certifications
- Valid pediatric CPR and First Aid certification (American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or equivalent) as required by Title 22.
- Current TB clearance and other health requirements per state regulations.
Experience & Skills
- Demonstrated experience in early childhood education, preferably for infant and toddler ages.
- Montessori training/certification (AMS, AMI, or equivalent) preferred.
- Strong knowledge of infant/toddler development and Montessori philosophy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and respectful relationships with families and staff.
Preferred Qualifications
- Montessori credential specific to Infant/Toddler (AMI Nido or AMS Early Childhood with infant/toddler focus).
- Experience as Lead Teacher in a Montessori infant/toddler classroom.
- Experience coaching and mentoring assistant teachers.
Working Conditions
- Frequent bending, lifting, sitting on the floor, and engaging at the child's level.
- Exposure to typical classroom conditions, including noise and active movement.
- Requires reliable attendance and punctuality.
