Ramat Shalom Beth Israel | Plantation, Florida
Ramat Shalom Beth Israel (RSBI), a vibrant and welcoming Jewish congregation in Plantation, Florida, is seeking an experienced, creative, and results-oriented Director of Development to build and lead a comprehensive development program.
Reporting to and supervised by the Executive Director, the Director of Development will be responsible for developing diversified and sustainable sources of philanthropic and institutional revenue to support RSBI’s mission, programs, education, and future.
This position is ideal for a development professional who is both a strong writer and relationship-builder — someone who can identify new funding opportunities, turn ideas into compelling proposals and partnerships, and create the systems and strategies necessary for reliable year-over-year fundraising growth.
Primary Areas of Responsibility
Grants & Institutional Funding
- Build and manage a comprehensive grants program for RSBI.
- Develop a strong pipeline of prospective funders aligned with RSBI’s programs and priorities.
- Work with the Executive Director and appropriate staff to develop fundable programs and translate organizational needs into strong proposals.
Sponsorships & Revenue Development
- Develop sponsorship opportunities for programs, events, educational initiatives, High Holidays, and other congregational activities.
- Explore creative fundraising opportunities and new sources of earned and contributed revenue.
- Develop strategies that can be replicated and expanded from year to year.
Individual Giving & Donor Stewardship
- Develop annual appeals and targeted giving initiatives.
- Create meaningful donor recognition, communication, and stewardship strategies.
- Help deepen relationships with existing supporters while identifying opportunities for increased and future giving.
Capital Campaign(s)
- Support the strategy and implementation of RSBI’s current and future capital fundraising efforts.
- Work with the Executive Director, clergy, lay leadership, and campaign volunteers to identify prospects and develop cultivation and solicitation strategies.
- Help maintain campaign momentum, track prospects and pledges, and ensure appropriate donor follow-up.
Development Operations & Strategy
- Build the systems, processes, calendars, and tracking mechanisms necessary for a sustainable and reliable development program.
- Work collaboratively with staff and lay leadership to strengthen a congregation-wide culture of philanthropy.
What Success Looks Like
The Director of Development will help move RSBI toward a diversified, sustainable development model that generates reliable annual revenue rather than relying primarily on individual campaigns or fundraising events.
Over time, success will mean:
- A robust pipeline of foundation and institutional funders.
- A predictable annual grants calendar with strong renewal and new-funder strategies.
- Recurring sponsorship and partnership revenue.
- Strong donor stewardship and retention for recurring and occasional giving.
- Clear systems for tracking prospects, proposals, relationships, results, and next steps.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- Demonstrated experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, grant writing, institutional giving, or a related field.
- Exceptional grant research and proposal-writing skills.
- A track record of identifying funding opportunities and successfully securing grants or other contributed revenue.
- Experience developing sponsorships, partnerships, annual appeals, or other fundraising initiatives.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with donors, funders, community partners, volunteers, and organizational leadership.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and project-management skills, including the ability to manage multiple deadlines and funding opportunities simultaneously.
- A strategic and entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to build new programs and systems rather than simply maintain existing ones.
- Comfort working collaboratively within a clear organizational and supervisory structure.
- Creativity, initiative, discretion, and sound judgment.
- Familiarity with Jewish communal organizations, synagogues, or faith-based nonprofit organizations is preferred but not required.
