The Jewish Center in Princeton N.J. is seeking to fill a position titled, Director of Education & Youth Engagement.

The Jewish Center is a Conservative synagogue and welcomes individuals from diverse backgrounds. Our congregation includes children, parents, grandparents, and friends – families who have been here for generations, and recent college graduates. We embrace interfaith families, Jews by choice, people of color, and LGBTQ individuals. We provide a home for teens, young families, empty-nesters, and seniors.

We are seeking a director level position from any Movement to create a dynamic educational setting and vibrant experiential curriculum for all levels from babies to 12th grade and their families. The ideal candidate is a motivated and creative thinker who embraces the rhythms of synagogue life. This professional will be a self-starter and imagine, develop, and implement cutting-edge curriculum.

Qualifications:

  • M.A. in Educ., Jewish Educ., or related field required, or significant experience in Jewish education
  • Rabbinic or Cantorial Ordination preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Effective communicator
  • Ability to connect with congregants of varied backgrounds and with diverse needs
  • Fluent in ruach, enthusiasm and Jewish joy
  • Knowledgeable about Jewish liturgy, culture and history
  • Comfortable with Hebrew as used in synagogue life
  • Demonstrates the ability to implement creative and effective teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs
  • Solid executive functioning skills including but not limited to budgeting, curriculum development, experiential engagement, time management
  • Passionate about their own Judaism, Israel, and the future of the Jewish people
  • Strong Jewish background and comfort in the rhythms of a synagogue environment
  • Willing to envision the future with new and creative ideas

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide educational leadership for our Religious School and Youth learning programs
  • Creating meaningful Jewish learning experiences that inspire lifelong engagement with Jewish tradition, Israel and synagogue community
  • Developing and implementing curricula and assessing learning outcomes
  • Hiring, retaining, inspiring and supervising a team of educators
  • Engaging and communicating well with parents, staff and the synagogue community
  • Providing accessible engagement for those with disabilities or learning differences
  • Coordinating our Youth and Family Programs
  • Supervising the B’nei Mitzvah processes
  • Developing Shabbat and Holiday programming
  • Strengthens community ties through active participation in Shabbat worship
  • Committed to being a dugma ishit by being a regular presence at Shabbat and Holiday services and programs
  • Participating/Conducting High Holiday Youth Services
  • Providing long term connections for learners through collaboration with social action committee and other groups at TJC
  • Facilitate engaging participation of youth in services
  • Support teen and post B’nei Mitzvah engagement
  • Working collaboratively with the senior leadership team
  • For a Rabbi or Cantor: clergy responsibilities will be assigned as needed.
  • This position reports to and is directly supervised by the Rabbi, and collaborates with the senior staff and lay leaders

Compensation:

  • $120,000 - $150,000 plus benefits. Salaries will be commensurate with experience.
