Job Title: Inclusion Coordinator
Reports To: Director of Caring
Schedule: Year-round Part-Time (20 hours a week, up to 25 hours/week during RS weeks)

• Monday – Friday 9am – 1 pm
• Sunday (Approximately 22 weeks) 8:15am-1:45pm
• Can flex one other day per week when RS is in session

About Us

Temple Rodef Shalom is a Reform Jewish congregation located in Northern Virginia, just outside Washington, DC. Since our founding in 1962, we have grown into the largest Jewish congregation in Virginia, serving over 1,800 households. We serve 150+ families in our Early Childhood Center, nearly 800 students in our Religious School, and 350 children and teens in our summer camp, and hundreds of people each week who walk through our doors to pray, sing, learn, connect, and mark life cycle moments.

About You

The Inclusion Coordinator supports the synagogue’s commitment to being welcoming and inclusive, especially for the youth in our community. Rooted in the Jewish values of B’tzelem Elohim (the belief that every person is created in the image of God) and Kavod HaBriyot (honoring the dignity of every human being), this role helps ensure that students of all abilities can participate in synagogue life.

The Inclusion Coordinator works collaboratively with educators, clergy, camp staff, youth advisors, parents and community partners to create welcoming, accessible, and inclusive learning and social environments, where every child and teen can participate in Jewish education, worship, camp and community life. The Inclusion Coordinator partners with other synagogue leaders to develop and implement accommodations that support the successful participation of students ages 2–18 with diverse learning, developmental, behavioral, or social-emotional needs.

Essential Responsibilities

Student and Family Support

• Meet with families before and during enrollment to learn about each student’s strengths, interests, learning style and support needs.
• Develop and help implement individualized support/inclusion plans that enable students to participate meaningfully in ECC, Religious School, Camp and youth programs.
• Monitor the effectiveness of accommodations and adjust support/inclusion plans as needed.
• Coordinate accommodations across educational settings.
• Facilitate communication among staff and families to ensure consistent and effective support.
• Monitor student success throughout the year and adjust supports as needed.
• Help families access outside community resources when appropriate.

Teacher and Classroom/Program Support

• Support teachers in implementing inclusive classroom practices and recommend best practices, as well as classroom accommodations and modifications when needed
• Observe children in class, and recommend strategies for developmental or behavioral challenges
• Coordinate with therapists when appropriate (OT, PT, speech, behavioral consultants).
• Help teachers adapt curricula and programs while maintaining educational goals.
• Ensure accessibility during holiday programs and worship experiences.

Inclusion Leadership

• Assist in developing and implementing congregational policies promoting accessibility and belonging.
• Educate the community about disability awareness and identify ways to make synagogue programs and activities more accessible and inclusive.
• Serve as staff liaison to the Accessibility and Inclusion Committee, helping shape their work and implement their programs and initiatives.
• Provide occasional training to staff on inclusive practices and how to support diverse learners.

Qualifications

• BA in Special Education, Child Development, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field required. Master’s degree preferred.
• Special Education certification or training preferred, or equivalent professional experience supporting children with diverse learning and developmental needs.
• Experience working with children with diverse learning and developmental needs, preferably in educational or recreational settings.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills when working with families and staff.
• Knowledge of inclusive teaching practices, behavioral supports, and developmental differences, and local community resources.
• Appreciation for Jewish communal life and values (Jewish knowledge welcome but not required).
