About the Position

Temple Isaiah is seeking a warm, organized, and enthusiastic Assistant to the Director of Families with Young Children to help support our community of families with children ages 0–6.

This is a wonderful opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young children and their caregivers, building community, supporting meaningful Jewish experiences, and helping create welcoming environments where families feel that they belong.

The Assistant will work closely with the Director of Families with Young Children to support family programming, events, and engagement throughout the year. A key part of the position will be being present and engaged at our monthly Friday Tot Shabbat and occasional other weekend family programming, helping programs run smoothly and ensuring that families receive a warm and welcoming experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning and implementing programs for families with children ages 0–6.
  • Provide hands-on support at monthly Friday Tot Shabbat and occasional other weekend family programs, including set-up, welcoming families, facilitating activities, and clean-up.
  • Help prepare materials, supplies, and spaces for programs.
  • Assist with age-appropriate activities, crafts, music, storytelling, and other family experiences.
  • Welcome families as they arrive and help new families feel comfortable and connected.
  • Assist the Director with event preparation, registration, attendance tracking, and follow-up.
  • Support special projects related to Families with Young Children programming.
  • Help create an environment that is warm, joyful, inclusive, and welcoming to both new and returning families.

Schedule

This is a part-time, hourly position based at Temple Isaiah in Lexington, MA, averaging approximately 12–14 hours per month.

The position includes the monthly Friday Tot Shabbat, as well as occasional other weekend family programming. Days and hours will vary from month to month based on the Temple’s programming calendar.

While programming and event hours will take place in person at Temple Isaiah, some administrative, planning, and communication hours may be completed remotely, offering flexibility in how the monthly hours are scheduled.

The ideal candidate will have flexibility and availability to work some evenings and weekends and will be comfortable with a schedule that varies throughout the year.

Qualifications & Ideal Candidate

  • Comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic about creating engaging experiences for young children.
  • Comfortable interacting with parents and caregivers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Able to anticipate what needs to be done and jump in to help.
  • Flexible and comfortable working in a lively environment where things don’t always go exactly according to plan.
  • Interested in Jewish traditions, community, and creating meaningful experiences for families.

Experience working with young children, families, education, camps, early childhood programs, religious/community organizations, or event programming is strongly preferred.

Compensation

$25–$30 per hour, commensurate with experience.
