Description

Shaliach Tzibur: Yom Kippur Morning Beth Torah Benny Rok Campus, Miami, Florida.

The role

Beth Torah Benny Rok Campus seeks an experienced shaliach tzibur to lead the opening of our Yom Kippur morning service: Birkot HaShachar, P'sukei d'Zimra, and Shacharit through the conclusion of the Amidah, handing off to our Cantor and Choir at the Torah service.

Our morning davening is entirely a cappella. We are looking for someone who holds the traditional High Holiday nusach with real command and who also knows when to step back and let the room carry a melody. The right candidate moves comfortably between those two modes: the solemnity of the day and the sound of a congregation singing together.

Responsibilities

  • Lead from Birkot HaShachar through the end of Shacharit.
  • Daven in traditional High Holiday nusach with fluency.
  • Coordinate in advance with our clergy on repertoire, transitions, and timing (one planning conversation by phone or video)

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience leading High Holiday services for a congregation of comparable size (1000 families)
  • Command of Hebrew and of High Holiday nusach; cantorial training, cantorial school enrollment, or equivalent experience as a ba'al tefillah
  • Proven ability to lead unaccompanied: secure intonation over an extended service, confident self-pitching between sections, and a voice that fills the room with amplification.
  • Familiarity with Mahzor Lev Shalem preferred

Compensation

$2,000 for the engagement, covering Yom Kippur morning. This position is limited to the morning service until the Torah service; no other High Holiday services are included.

To apply

Send a brief note about your experience, along with a recording of High Holiday davening (live or studio, unaccompanied preferred), to Cantor Marcos Askenazi [email hidden]
