Job Opening: Assistant Camp Director

Camp Young Judaea Sprout Lake

Love camp? Love people? Love making things happen?

Young Judaea Sprout Camps is looking for a dynamic, organized, and energetic Assistant Director to join our year-round leadership team.

This is a hands-on role for someone who loves building relationships, recruiting great people, solving problems, and turning plans into an incredible summer.

What You’ll Do

Build an Amazing Staff

Great camp starts with great staff. You will help lead our seasonal recruitment and hiring efforts, including:

  • Recruit, interview, and hire counselors, specialists, medical staff, and support staff
  • Build relationships with colleges, Hillels, universities, and other recruitment partners
  • Plan and participate in college recruitment trips and events
  • Recruit and manage internship opportunities
  • Develop creative staff recruitment and marketing campaigns
  • Manage candidates from first contact through their arrival at camp

Make Camp Happen

Behind every great summer are hundreds of details. You will help manage the logistics that bring camp to life:

  • Coordinate camp program & trips, vendors, and special experiences
  • Book buses and manage transportation logistics
  • Manage vendor contracts, schedules, and required documentation
  • Support seasonal payroll and staff administration
  • Help coordinate pre-camp planning and opening
  • Jump in, troubleshoot, and solve problems when plans change

Be a Camp Leader

As Assistant Director, you are part of the team responsible for the overall success of camp.

During the summer, you’ll be out in camp — supporting staff, connecting with campers, solving problems, and helping create a positive, joyful camp community.

Who We’re Looking For

We want someone who:

  • Loves camp and believes in its impact on kids
  • Is outgoing and an excellent relationship-builder
  • Is highly organized and follows through
  • Can manage multiple projects at once
  • Takes initiative and enjoys solving problems
  • Communicates clearly and professionally
  • Brings energy, creativity, flexibility, and a sense of humor
  • Is comfortable working hard during the intensity of the camp season

Experience in summer camp, Jewish communal work, youth development, recruitment, education, operations, or nonprofit management is preferred.

Where? Job is hybrid in office (New York City) one day a week remote. On site in the summer in Verbank NY full time.

Why Sprout?

This isn't a desk job where every day looks the same. You’ll recruit the people who make camp special, help build the experiences campers remember forever, and be part of a team that believes deeply in the power of Jewish summer camp.

If you’re looking for meaningful work, great people, big energy, and a job where you can see the impact you’re making — we’d love to meet you.

Salary Range: From $60,000 pending experience
