Temple Kol Ami, a vibrant 375 family Reform Jewish congregation in Scottsdale, AZ, is seeking a passionate and experienced Temple Administrator to help provide strategic, operational, and financial leadership for the congregation. Working in close partnership with Clergy and lay leadership, the Administrator oversees administration, human resources, finance, facilities, communications, and development to ensure the congregation fulfills its mission and operates effectively and sustainably.
Core Leadership and Administration
- Collaborate closely with Clergy to develop programs that meet congregational needs.
- Ensure alignment with the congregation’s vision, mission, and financial and operational goals.
- Direct administrative, fiduciary, and managerial functions of the congregation.
- Recommend new or revised policies and strategies to the Board as appropriate.
Human Resources
- Ensure compliance with Personnel Policies, Board-approved procedures, and best HR practices.
- Work with HR advisors, Personnel Committee, and Executive Committee on staffing policies, benefits, and employee handbooks.
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal employment laws.
- Oversee hiring, performance evaluation, discipline, and termination processes with proper documentation.
- Promote effective communication and grievance resolution among staff, volunteers, management, and the Board.
Budget, Finance, and Legal
- Oversee development, monitoring, and revision of annual budgets.
- Ensure timely financial reporting, including annual audits or reviews.
- Authorize expenditures within approved budgets and guidelines.
- Maintain sound, ethical financial practices and internal controls.
- Ensure compliance with all tax and regulatory requirements.
Religious Services and High Holy Days
- Ensure operational readiness for all religious services and holiday observances.
- Review financial aspects of special events and programs.
Program and Organizational Development
- Ensure long-range strategic planning aligned with the congregation’s mission.
- Provide leadership in organizational, programmatic, and financial planning.
- Maintain awareness of trends in URJ, NATA congregations, and the nonprofit sector.
- Be present at major synagogue functions.
Board and Committee Relations
- Advise and support the Board in policy development and performance oversight.
- Assist with Board recruitment as needed.
- Support Board and committee work through reports, resources, and staff coordination.
- Ensure implementation of Board, Finance, and Endowment Committee decisions.
- Serve as liaison to the Cemetery and Mausoleum Association.
- Ensure compliance with congregational bylaws.
- Participate regularly in Board, Executive Committee, and other meetings as appropriate.
Public Relations and Marketing
- Oversee marketing and communications staff person.
- Represent the congregation within the Jewish community, media, and broader community.
Membership
- Partner with lay leaders to promote membership engagement and retention.
- Support outreach to unaffiliated Jews and new community members.
- Foster a welcoming, caring culture alongside the Clergy.
Development and Fundraising
- Lead revenue development strategies and fundraising initiatives.
- Implement an annual Development Plan in consultation with leadership and advisors.
- Oversee donor recognition, gift acknowledgment, and major donor cultivation.
- Support planned giving efforts.
Facilities and Asset Management
- Ensure effective use, maintenance, and cleanliness of all facilities and physical assets.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
*Three or more years Temple Leadership or related field.
* Extensive computer knowledge
* Ability to handle multiple tasks & interruptions.
* Possess strong organizational skills.
* Ability to maintain a calm demeanor during challenging situations.
*Consistent, reliable attendance is necessary for position.
Hours required: Consistent schedule and availability based on Temple’s hours of operation. May require occasional commitment time outside of regular office hours.
Salary: Between $65,000 - $80,000 annually (based on experience) plus benefits
