The Manager oversees the training and program development for group visits, providing excellent teaching to Gallery Educators, Per Diem Educators, and other cohorts. The Museum Educator Manager is a key member of the Education team, who works under the supervision of the Vice President of Education and manages the Gallery and Per Diem Educators.
Responsibilities:
- Plan and manage the Museum’s volunteer Gallery Educator (GE) and Per Diem Educator (PDE) programs, including recruiting and training new educators, conducting ongoing evaluations of tours and lessons, and providing feedback to individual educators.
- Assign and supervise tour shifts and lessons as well as lead tours, greet and facilitate group entry, direct floor traffic in the galleries, and supervise group use of the classrooms.
- Revise tours as needed and conduct training as revisions are made.
- Create educational programs for on-site lessons and train Educators on new materials.
- Coordinate with the Education Dept. staff to provide additional support to Gallery Educators and PDE when necessary.
- With colleagues, plan and implement recognition events for Museum volunteers and educators.
- Report on program metrics and data upon request.
- Foster the relationship between MJH educators and the institution.
- Administer formal annual evaluation of educators.
- Develop and implement Gallery Education and PDE protocols and procedures.
- Develop and produce newsletters, fliers, and other ongoing informational materials as needed.
- Other Education department responsibilities as needed.
Requirements:
- BA in Judaic studies, Holocaust history, museum education, or related field required, MA preferred.
- 3-5 years of professional experience in informal and/or museum education, proficient in object-based education.
- Excellent teaching skills, with adult learning experience.
- Strong background in Holocaust history.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including tact, patience, and clarity.
- Proficient with CRM systems, scheduling software/apps, and Microsoft 365.
- Highly motivated, positive attitude, and well organized.
Position Details:
- Reports to the VP of Education.
- Manages Museum Educators.
- Salary compensation range $50,000 – $60,000 with generous benefits.
- Full-time, 40 hours a week.
- The successful candidate will expect to work onsite. (Limited/occasional telecommuting arrangements may be considered.)
