Job Objective:
The Billing & Payroll Specialist facilitates and supports accurate, timely billing and payroll operations for Home Care services, including Medicare and commercial insurance billing for Hospice and Homemakers & Companions programs. Payroll responsibilities support Homemakers & Companions and other applicable Homecare staff. This role ensures compliance with agency guidelines, payer requirements, and payroll standards while supporting efficient revenue cycle and payroll processes.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Experience: Knowledge of Home Care, Hospice, Homemakers, and commercial insurance billing.
Prior experience in healthcare billing and/or payroll strongly preferred.
Licensure: N/A
Essential Job Functions:
Billing & Claims Processing (Hospice & Homecare)
- Process, verify, and submit accurate Medicare and commercial insurance claims for Home Care, Hospice, and Homemakers & Companions services.
- Perform billing preparation functions, including review of visit data, supply charges, and required documentation.
- Ensure billing processes comply with agency policies, payer requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
- Review, investigate, and resolve denied, pending, and aged claims; correct and resubmit claims as appropriate.
- Accurately enter and maintain patient billing data, including visits, supplies, and services rendered.
- Monitor billing timelines and alert appropriate management staff regarding late, missing, or incomplete documentation required for billing.
- Assist in maintaining accurate and up-to-date billing systems.
- Contribute to team objectives by completing related billing tasks and supporting overall revenue cycle performance.
Payroll Processing (Homecare / Homemakers & Companions Only)
- Process payroll for Homecare staff, including Homemakers & Companions, in accordance with established payroll schedules and policies.
- Review and verify timekeeping records, visit data, and pay codes for accuracy prior to payroll submission.
- Ensure accurate application of pay rates, differentials, overtime, and other applicable compensation elements.
- Address payroll discrepancies, corrections, and employee inquiries in collaboration with HR and management.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of payroll and employee information.
Compliance, Communication & Support
- Support compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payer, and wage and hour requirements as applicable.
- Assist with audits, payer inquiries, and internal reviews by providing accurate billing and payroll documentation.
- Communicate effectively with internal departments to resolve billing and payroll issues in a timely manner.
- Covers medical records and scheduling as needed
- Other related duties as assigned.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to speak clearly and be understood.
- Able to hear sounds with some background noise, such as, the phone, intercom, etc.
- Visual acuity to see a computer and read printed documents.
- Ability to use company software and equipment to accomplish electronic tasks.
- Ability to manage multiple demands, deadlines, and priorities, and maintain focus, with some interruptions, in a fast-paced office environment.
- Strong attention to detail with solid organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read, communicate clearly, and follow established procedures.
- Proficiency with billing systems, EMR platforms, and payroll/timekeeping systems.
- Ability to carry out position responsibilities independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to understand and relate to the reasons behind several related concepts.
- Ability to perform gross body coordination such as walking, stooping, filing, etc.
- Ability to perform tasks which require hand eye coordination such as keyboard skills, writing or picking up paper.
