Description

We seek a dynamic highly skilled teen educator with significant expertise in social justice education, to be our new Kumi program lead. Kumi is a unique opportunity for Jewish teens (10th-12th graders) to interrupt racism, antisemitism, and other manifestations of oppression. This teen leadership experience imparts knowledge and skills for exploring justice and equity from a Jewish lens. The Kumi program lead is responsible for implementing the program and ensuring the program meets organizational and educational objectives while also meeting the needs of teen participants. They will design and facilitate experiential programming, serve as a mentor and advocate for teen participants, and partner with Development and Communications team and Partnership team staff to support the amplification of participants’ learning and funding of the program. The Kumi program lead will be part of a supportive and passionate team of professionals who enjoys problem-solving with one another, celebrating each other’s successes, and collaborating in achieving the shared goals of our justice-focused teen trips and fellowships. They will have the support of a Program Manager who is responsible for implementing all logistical aspects of Kumi (and the other trips and fellowships run by Moving Traditions) in coordination with the Kumi lead.

ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY

Moving Traditions has emboldened more than 40,000 Jewish youth and trained more than 2,650 adults to implement Moving Traditions B-Mitzvah Family Education Program and our Teen Groups: Rosh Hodesh for girls, Shevet for boys, and Tzelem for LGBTQ+ teens. Kulam is a series of plug-and-play curricular sessions designed for Jewish educators to use in Hebrew High Schools with students and TAs, and at camps with staff and CITs. Our Teen Trips and Fellowships include jGirls+ Magazine, the Meyer-Gottesman Kol Koleinu Teen Feminist Fellowship and Kumi. CultureShift training is available for those working with Jewish youth at camp and elsewhere about navigating gender, healthy boundaries, and more. This year, Moving Traditions is projected to support more than 12,500 Jewish youth, in partnership with 300+ synagogues, day schools, camps, and other Jewish institutions across North America.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitate Kumi gatherings and experiences including at least 2 in-person retreats and 5 virtual gatherings each year.
  • Oversee the recruitment and selection process for Kumi teen participants.
  • Refine existing design of Kumi retreats, and over time, develop new offerings.
  • Run local events to recruit for the national retreats and build more shared knowledge among teens and educators.
  • Draft program evaluations and use feedback to strengthen and further build and develop the program.
  • Identify, train, and coordinate with external consultants as needed and ensure they are equipped to create community and lead experiences within Kumi and/or other initiatives.
  • Contribute to grant applications and reports and participate in fundraising efforts to ensure financial support for the program.
  • Represent Kumi and Moving Traditions at national conferences and in relevant networks.
  • Collaborate with the staff of Moving Traditions’ other direct programs to enhance program offerings.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE SKILL REQUIRED

  • 5+ years’ experience in the field of Jewish experiential education and/or social justice education with expertise working with youth on identity development and creating programs/ writing curriculum on some or all of the following topics: racial justice, Jewish ethnic and racial diversity, Jewish identity, racism and antisemitism, gender and sexuality, Israel and the Israeli/Palestinian conflict, teen activism.
  • Experience working with JOC/POC teens or young adults.
  • Embrace Moving Traditions’ mission.
  • Creative and flexible self-starter.
  • Strong presentation, facilitation, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to excellence and strong sense of accountability.
  • Commitment and ability to hold and create space for diverse views.
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to represent Moving Traditions work on this fellowship through speaking and writing.
  • Ability to implement program strategy through curriculum design.
  • Knowledge of best practices in fellowship design, experiential education, online/hybrid education, and teen development a plus.
  • Familiarity with the landscape of JOCSM organizations and professionals and/or a strong network of Jewish social justice and racial justice educators.
  • Experience with Salesforce or other data-tracking system a plus.

COMPENSATION

Compensation at Moving Traditions is determined based on the salary band for the role. The salary range for this full-time, exempt staff position is $65,000 – 85,000, yearly. Benefits package includes paid time off for vacation and Jewish and major national holidays, 100% paid medical benefits for employee including dental/vision, Short-term disability/Life insurance, and FSA. In addition, employees that have been with Moving Traditions for at least a year are eligible for paid parental leave and a 401K employer contribution.

APPLICATION PROCESS

The process for the hired applicant will include the following steps:

  • Submission of a Resume as well as a Cover Letter.
  • Applicants moved forward will have a phone screening with a member of Moving Traditions HR team or the team lead.
  • Applicants that move forward from the screening interview will have a first-round interview with the Hiring Manager.
  • Applicants that move forward from the first-round interview will present to Teen Trips and Fellowship team members and former Kumi participants.
  • The final round interview will be with the Chief of Program Strategy and the CEO.
  • Three professional references will be requested at the end of the interview process.

Salary Description
$65,000 - $85,000, yearly
