Status: Full-Time, In-Person
Reports to Health Educator Supervisor
Annual Salary: $52,000 to $55,000, commensurate with education and experience.
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8-hour shift, after-school and evening hours, occasional weekend availability

Summary:
We are seeking a full-time Health Educator with 2 or more years of experience working with adolescents in a community setting. MMCC offers New York City adolescents a healthy, safe, nurturing and educational environment during after school and evening hours. This program, administered from MMCC, is designed to prevent unintended and early pregnancy through academic motivation and assistance, sexual health education, and mental health services. Additionally, the ideal candidate will also have a strong knowledge of public relations & youth development. See below for additional requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Teach “Be Proud! Be Responsible” curriculum in a group setting of 12-15 students
- Actively engage young people in reproductive health counseling as needed and explore various aspects of human sexuality and their development
- Provide comprehensive, age appropriate, sexuality health education for adolescents (13 –18).
- Provide strategies for young people to make healthy decisions and set goals for the future.
- Connect youth to reproductive health services.
- Encourage youth/adult partnerships and effective communication.
- Function as a liaison for their reproductive health care by meeting with both the MMCC medical staff and providers to discuss and review reproductive health issues when appropriate
- Refer to mental health staff issues that have surfaced that are clinical in nature while retaining the relationship for reproductive health issues. Case conference with mental health workers around issues that encompass both human sexuality and mental health
- Monitor reproductive health cases as needed
- Continually remind staff to refer issues they encounter regarding sexuality, reproductive health and relationships
- Maintain records of all reproductive health counseling sessions including individual profile, in a locked file
- Implement the BPBR program for parents that facilitates exploration of sexuality issues, increases parent knowledge, addresses the emotional aspects of these issues and encourages skill building. Instill parents/guardians with confidence about the education their children receive around the BPBR model.
- Complete monthly reports on BPBR group activities
- Meet with Health Educator team for weekly supervision
- Attend program staff meetings
- Perform other duties as required
Requirements:
● BA in Health Education or related field or 2 - 3 years related field experience with adolescents required
● At least three years’ experience working in a similar environment with adolescent programs
● Experience implementing reproductive health counseling programs that explores various aspects of human sexuality and development as well as mental health
● Strong written and oral communication skills
● Ability to multi-task; skills to be a team player and self-starter.
● Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people including students, school staff and parents
● Enthusiasm, a good sense of humor and a sincere desire to help the community
● Candidates with connections to the Bronx community will be given preference
● Preferably Bilingual, depending on the community and youth being served.
