Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School of the Nation's Capital is an independent, community Jewish day school that currently offers a dual curriculum of General and Judaic studies for students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8. The school serves more than 475 students at our Kay and Robert Schattner Center Campuses - the beautiful South Campus for Early Childhood students in Grades PK-1, and the newly renovated and expanded North Campus for Elementary and Middle School students in Grades 2-8.

Milton Gottesman Jewish Day School is searching for an Athletic Director for the 2026-2027 school year. The Athletic Director develops, manages, and supervises the school’s physical education and athletic programs. Requires evening and weekend commitments.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, manage, and supervise developmentally appropriate athletic and PE programs in line with the school’s overall educational mission and goals, ensuring they are accessible to all students.
  • Instruct PE class to several grades within the school and participate in school duties.
  • Work with the senior leadership team to continue to innovate and develop a strategic vision for athletics at MILTON.
  • Schedule all elementary and middle school practices and games for the school’s teams, coordinating with the various other school events to ensure maximum opportunity for all students.
  • Communicate schedules with families and staff in a timely, professional fashion from the time when registration opens through the end of each season.
  • Collaborate with the school’s dismissal and calendar teams to ensure that student-athlete dismissal plans reflect the athletic team calendar and correct dismissal modes.
  • Ensure that all coaching positions are filled with competent and properly trained coaches.
  • Supervise coaches, including tracking payroll and providing training.
  • Oversee the distribution, collection, storage, upkeep, and replacement of all school athletic uniforms and equipment.
  • Report athletic achievements for both individuals and teams to the Communications Office.
  • Schedule transportation for all away athletic games and drive students when necessary.
  • Secure the necessary number of qualified officials for each home contest and ensure they are compensated appropriately.
  • Collaborate with the school health and student support personnel to ensure appropriate response to illness, injury, or concussion.
  • Maintain and extend MILTON’s good standing within the PVAC by attending PVAC directors meetings, scheduling games and practices, ensuring that league rules and expectations are followed, and volunteering at varsity PVAC conference game competitions.
  • Serve as a role model for the School and League’s player, staff, and spectator sportsmanship guidelines and rules.
  • Partner with the academic team and student support team to ensure that student-athletes act in accordance with the student-athlete guidelines and to address any concerns that may arise.
  • Perform other duties as determined by the Head of School.
Requirements
  • Ideal candidate will have a degree in physical education, kinesiology, sports administration, or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree, ideally in physical education or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least two years of relevant experience in an athletics-related role in an educational environment.
  • Experience teaching and coaching different sports as well as different levels
  • Willingness to be part of a collaborative environment and work closely with colleagues and parents.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing.
  • Prior experience with Blackbaud is a plus.
  • Positive attitude, flexible approach, and a sense of humor.
  • Valid drivers license and clean driving record
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds.
Salary Description
$70,000-$83,500
