Summary:

The Mid-Island Y JCC is seeking a passionate, highly organized, and community-focused professional to serve as Assistant Director of Volunteer Services. This role offers an exciting opportunity to help build and expand a vibrant culture of volunteerism while strengthening programs that support families, older adults, and community members across Long Island.

Working closely with the Director of Volunteer Services, the Assistant Director will play a key role in recruiting, engaging, and mobilizing volunteers to support impactful initiatives such as the Rudman Family Food Pantry, community service projects, holocaust survivor programs, and large-scale community events. The ideal candidate is someone who thrives on building relationships, organizing meaningful service opportunities, and empowering individuals to make a difference.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, onboard, and engage volunteers across a wide range of programs and initiatives.
  • Develop innovative volunteer opportunities that align with the MIYJCC’s mission and community needs.
  • Cultivate relationships with schools, synagogues, corporate partners, and community organizations to expand volunteer participation.
  • Support group volunteer experiences including service days, corporate projects, and community events.
  • Assist with all donations, acknowledgments and requests for food as part of the Rudman Family Food Pantry

· Assist with creating and implementing volunteer projects and community events.

· Maintain accurate records and update databases with volunteer participation, donor and client information

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-time position with days generally being Monday – Friday. Flexibility with hours is required leading up to, and during programs.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 3-5 years of community engagement, non profit programs.

Knowledge and Skills:

· Basic computer skills: Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel

· Must be organized and able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines and manage time

· Must be able to work as a part of a team

· Must be able to take initiative to solve problems and be willing to seek assistance in solving problems

· Must be able to communicate well verbally

· Some evenings and occasional weekends are required to support volunteer programs

Pay: $21.00 - $23.00 per hour
