The Mid-Island Y JCC is looking for a Camp Aquatics Director. This person will direct and supervise subordinate lifeguards and swim instructors. Under general supervision, assists in training and instruction of subordinate lifeguard and swim instructor personnel in methods and techniques of water safety and aquatic instruction.

Key areas of responsibility:

• Assists in scheduling and supervising all aquatic personnel
• Assists in evaluating the performance of subordinate personnel
• Supervises and/or carries out rescue of helpless swimmers, administers first aid and applies resuscitation measures when necessary
• Enforces rules and regulations pertaining to the use of the aquatic facility.
• Completes all records and reports associated with the management of Aquatics Department
• Ensure subordinate lifeguards and instructors are maintaining minimum certifications and updating staff binder and chart
• Completes any additional duties as directed by the Aquatic Director and/or the Health & Fitness Director

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position supervises the camp lifeguards, WSI

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time (Summer) position with the possibility of a year round position.

Required Education and Experience

• American Red Cross Lifeguard Training certification
• Nassau County Lifeguard Certification
• CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification
• First Aid certification
• More than four years of experience lifeguarding
• Ability to successfully complete a practical interview
• Ability to supervise and train subordinates
• Maintain all minimum required certifications

Knowledge and Skills:

• Considerable knowledge of first aid, rescue, and resuscitation techniques and equipment
• Considerable knowledge of lifesaving methods and techniques and water safety measures
• Considerable knowledge of rules and regulations governing the use of water facilities
• Considerable swimming skill
• Ability to supervise and train subordinates
• Ability to respond effectively in emergency situations
• Ability to prepare accurate reports
