Through strategic grantmaking, relationship-based philanthropy, and field-building, we support and invest in innovative high performing organizations, programs, and partnerships that make traditional Judaism relevant, accessible and meaningful to contemporary Jews. Our work is grounded in humility, curiosity, and a commitment to learning and collaboration. We believe that meaningful change is best achieved through mutual trust, deep listening, and the empowerment of visionary leaders. Position Overview The Program Officer will play a central role in implementing Micah Philanthropies’ mission by overseeing grant portfolios, cultivating relationships, and supporting the foundation’s learning and strategic goals. This is a highly relational role that requires strong organizational, communication, and writing skills; a collaborative spirit; and a deep understanding of the philanthropic and Jewish communal ecosystems. Micah Philanthropies fosters a culture of shared learning and reflection, and the Program Officer will be expected to contribute to a dynamic team environment that values humility, transparency, and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities • Manage the full grantmaking process: sourcing of ideas and partners, proposal intake and review, due diligence, reporting, and shared learning. • Partner with the Grants Manager to ensure effective grantmaking operations and budget tracking, • Build and steward strong, trust-based relationships with grantee partners and field leaders. • Guide collaborative efforts with teammates and external partners, providing direction and accountability to advance key projects and strategic priorities. • Craft clear, engaging written materials — including grant memos, board documents, reports, and public-facing content. • Contribute to strategic communications by developing messaging, summaries, and presentations that share the foundation’s values and learning. • Monitor developments in Jewish life, philanthropy, and social change to inform strategy. • Support internal learning through reflective practices and synthesis of insights. • Represent the foundation at meetings, convenings, and collaborative initiatives. • Contribute to the continuous improvement of grantmaking systems, workflows, and knowledge-sharing practices. Qualifications • Minimum 5 years of experience in philanthropy, nonprofit leadership, communications, or related fields. • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, and stakeholders. • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience with strategic messaging and storytelling. • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain collaborative, trust-based relationships. • Knowledge of the Jewish communal landscape and commitment to Jewish values of justice, learning, and inclusion. • Strategic communications experience, including writing for both internal and external audiences. • A learner’s mindset, openness to feedback, and comfort with ambiguity and complexity. • Humility, empathy, and a deep appreciation for diverse perspectives and lived experiences. • Proficiency in digital tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace); experience with grants management and CRM software is a plus. Compensation & Benefits Micah Philanthropies offers a competitive salary in the range of $95,000–$115,000, commensurate with experience.
