Senior Accounting Analyst

This role presents an exciting opportunity for a skilled Senior Accounting Analyst to contribute to a dynamic and mission-driven finance team within a higher education setting. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in nonprofit accounting and a commitment to process improvement, supporting both routine transactions and strategic financial initiatives. Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the Controller to establish the institution’s first formal Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) function.
- Prepare journal entries and assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes in accordance with GAAP and FASB standards for nonprofits.
- Reconcile complex general ledger accounts, including restricted funds, endowments, and grants.
- Support accounts payable and receivable functions to ensure proper classification and documentation.
- Perform reconciliations for bank accounts, credit card transactions, and other financial activity.
- Develop financial reports, dashboards, and trend analyses for internal departments and senior leadership.
- Conduct variance analysis, budget tracking, and fund balance monitoring across various accounts.
- Assist with annual audit preparation, including lead schedules, documentation, and coordination with auditors.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state financial reporting standards, including Uniform Guidance for federal grants.
- Maintain and enhance financial reporting within the ERP system (Sage Intacct), promoting data accuracy and workflow efficiency.
- Recommend and help implement improvements to accounting processes, documentation, and internal controls.
- Lead and support special projects, policy updates, and adoption of accounting best practices.
- Cross-train in Senior Accountant responsibilities to ensure operational continuity.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline required.
- 2–5 years of relevant accounting experience; nonprofit or higher education experience preferred.
- Experience with Sage Intacct or similar ERP platforms is a plus.
- Familiarity with nonprofit GAAP and fund accounting standards is strongly preferred.
