The Merage JCC is seeking a Wellness Manager to oversee a thriving Group Fitness program as well as help build wellness programming. The department currently includes over 70 classes a week as well as revenue based specialty offerings. The Manager will be expected to manage future wellness offerings such as weight loss programs, Parkinson’s Wellness Recovery, wellness fairs, and health related seminars. The Manager will serve as an integral part of the Health and P.E. Management Team, agency as a whole and will work closely in conjunction with the maintenance and marketing departments. The Manager will be expected to provide excellence in customer service, programming, safety and cleanliness. The Manager must be detail oriented, organized, flexible and able to handle multiple projects at the same time. In accordance with the agency’s standards, the Manager will take responsibility to provide excellent service at all times.

Qualifications & Specialized Skills

  • B.S. degree in Health and Fitness or a related field of study
  • Current CPR, AED, First Aid certifications
  • Nationally recognized group fitness certifications
  • Experience with wellness programming such as:
    • Weight loss, nutrition, health risk assessments/screenings, mind/body, Parkinson’s wellness recovery, etc.
  • Experience building a Wellness program from scratch preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory and related work experience
  • Proficient in most computer programs (excel, word, PowerPoint, publisher, and outlook)
  • Customer service orientated and result driven.
  • Awareness of trends in the wellness industry
  • Strong communicational, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to train and lead staff
  • Demonstrated ability to develop programming for all age groups

Duties and Responsibilities

Coordination

  • Analyze market needs, create and adapt programming to meet the needs and demands of current and prospective members
  • Develop and implement programs and special events as they pertain to group fitness to maximize exposure
  • Oversee class scheduling and substitutions, ensuring classes are never cancelled
  • Oversee all aspects of communication of group fitness programs including: maintaining updated schedules, web, and print marketing and communicating changes with members and staff
  • Duties may change at any time based on the business needs of the organization
  • Respond to members concerns, suggestions and complaints in a timely, professional and consistent manner (24 hour response time via email and/or phone).
  • Work with membership and the fitness director to funnel leads from new member joins to fitness programs
  • Work with other departments to help guide existing and new members into group fitness programs
  • Continually audit and evaluate all classes and programs, solicit feedback, review and analyze results.
  • Prepare statistical reports pertaining to group fitness class usage
  • Participate in staffing major JCC programs or events outside of the department when assigned (ie. Memorial Day, Golf Tournament, Fitness Palooza, etc.)
  • Utilize social media as means of communication and promotion

Supervision

  • Recruit, supervise, coach and evaluate all group fitness instructors and other part-time staff as needed
  • Promote a professional work environment through character development by modeling JCC standards and values
  • Hold regularly scheduled team meetings to establish and monitor department goals
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organization’s polices and applicable laws
  • Process payroll for 35+ employees

Facility/Equipment

  • Ensure Group Fitness facilities are clean, well-maintained, and relevant to providing excellent programming
  • Facilities include group fitness studio, cycling studio, and anywhere else a class may be held
  • Maintain inventory to purchase equipment as needed
  • Work cooperatively with outside services to both service and repair equipment as needed
  • Purchase and maintain appropriate inventory of needed supplies for the department

Budget

  • Participate in the development of the group fitness budget with supervisor
  • Work with supervisor to set monthly income program goals and expenses for
  • Implement systems and work with staff to reach the departments financial goals
  • Utilize finance forms as appropriate including purchase orders and check requests

Physical Demands

  • Requires long periods of standing or sitting
  • Ability to teach a variety of group fitness classes requiring but not limited to strength, flexibility, and stamina
  • Moderate- Extended use of computer terminal screen, right or left hand use, typing.
  • Ability to lift 50 Ibs. Some lifting may require additional assistance from another staff person
  • Use of personal safety equipment required
  • Frequent use of cleaning chemicals
  • Continuous exposure to moderate to loud noise
  • Occasional exposure to bodily fluids
