Position Purpose: Requires planning and forethought; proactive, resourcefulness and creative problem-solving skills. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and effective communication are required. Skilled in teaching and making presentations to groups and in explaining culinary techniques at fundamental to advanced levels. Self-motivated with strong interpersonal and customer service skills. Works under the guidance of the Culinary Arts Director to develop fun and educational cooking classes for children and adults. Includes some evening and weekend shifts. MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: Developing curriculum (work with Culinary Arts Director; research trends; curriculum for children, families and adults, specialty workshops such as holiday cuisine, challah baking, Jewish ethnic cooking, etc.); Teaching a variety of cooking classes (Club J, Preschool, adult classes) in an engaging, hands-on way; Administrative (type/update recipes, class registrations/descriptions, inventory); Kitchen Prep (testing recipes, shopping, prep); Kitchen Etiquette (maintain sanitary/safe teaching kitchen, manage equipment, setup/breakdown). PRIMARY RESULTS ACCOUNTABLE FOR ACHIEVING: Other specific results will be assigned and measured. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None. Reports to Culinary Arts Director. RELATIONSHIP BUILDING: Regular contact inside and outside the company at all levels; requires tact, discretion, persuasion. DECISION MAKING: Uses judgment to plan/perform; general decisions to solve problems/select course of action. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: General Supervision; considerable latitude in determining objectives/approach; work reviewed from a long-time perspective for desired results. Typical Job Level: Professional, technical and administrative specialists and upper, middle managers. SKILL SETS/ACCOUNTABILITIES: Innovative, passionate, growth mindset for Culinary Arts program; operate independently in a fast-paced environment; strong customer service; calm demeanor; proficient in Microsoft Office and social media; ability to stay within budget. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Undergraduate education in culinary or equivalent; at least 2 years working with children. SKILLS REQUIRED: Math, Communication, Reasoning, Computer, Leadership, Analytical, Administrative, Networking, Cooking, Teaching. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Stand; walk; sit; talk/hear; use hands; climb/balance; stoop/kneel/crouch/crawl; reach; taste/smell. 25–50 lbs lifting requirement. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Moderate noise; some outdoor events; wet/humid conditions. SCHEDULE: Day Shift (31–40 hrs/wk). Evenings as needed.
