The Center for Jewish Life within the Marlene Meyerson Jewish Community Center in Manhattan (the JCC) is seeking a highly organized, relationship-driven, and mission-oriented Hebrew Home Page Tutor to join our team of part-time virtual Hebrew reading tutors.
This role is ideal for a thoughtful, organized, tech-savvy educator passionate about sharing their love of Hebrew with children, teens, and adults. We are especially looking for educators with experience teaching students in grades 3-7, as well as those certified to teach students with language-based learning challenges.
Tutors will be asked to show availability of between 2-25 hours per week and have experience teaching Hebrew reading, Prayerbook fluency, and Modern Hebrew conversation. Students should be comfortable in a virtual, digital environment, be able to facilitate Zoom meetings, use Google Drive and Google Calendar, and learn new apps.
The position requires strong time management skills, the ability to foster connections with students and communicate clearly and reliably with parents.

Key Responsibilities
Hewbrew Home Page Tutors tutor three (3) or more 30-minute sessions per week from September through June
- Manage a series of 24 sessions for each student on Google Calendar
- Document each student's progress through accurate attendance and session reports each week, prepared following each session.
- Communicate with parents and Education Directors as needed.
- Follow the curriculum laid out by the Director of the Hebrew Home Page and participating Education Directors
- Use materials provided by various Conservative and Reform synagogues to teach Prayerbook Fluency in various siddurim and with diverse liturgies.
Connect with Students and Facilitate Progress
- Connect with each student to foster growth in reading accuracy and fluency to ultimately help each student advance towards their goals in either leading prayers and/or Hebrew conversation
- Facilitate connection and meaning-making so that each student develops a love of learning Hebrew
Professional Development
- Tutors will attend professional development focused on differentiation of learning and student motivation.
- Tutors will set goals in their own growth and work towards achieving them.
Qualifications
- Fully fluent in speaking and writing Hebrew
- Experience teaching or tutoring Hebrew
- Minimum age of 18 years of age or older
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Experience in educating elementary and middle school students
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Comfort working in a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
- Proficiency with Google Drive, Zoom, email, and other apps
Work Schedule This is a part-time position. Tutors are often able to set their own schedules, assuming their availability matches that of students
Work Location This is a fully remote position
Salary The starting rate is $32 per hour with opportunities for increases with experience and longevity, as well as taking on more students
