The MJCCA Dance Program is committed to fostering a love of dance in students of all ages and skill levels. We offer a range of dance styles and emphasize personal growth, creativity, and community. We're seeking a passionate and experienced Dance Teacher to join our team.

Position Summary

The Dance Teacher will lead fun, engaging, and educational dance classes for children ages 2 - 18 in various dance styles (e.g., ballet, jazz, hip hop, tap, and contemporary). The ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic instructor who can adapt their teaching approach to different age groups and skill levels, while creating a positive and supportive classroom environment. This candidate will also teach and train members of our competitive youth dance team, J Dance Company. These students range from 5 - 18. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in various dance styles, a proven record of coaching competitive dancers, and the ability to inspire and push young dancers to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

· Plan and teach dance classes for children (ages 2+).

· Create age-appropriate choreography and lesson plans for performances and recitals.

· Choreograph original, high-quality routines for competitions, showcases, and recitals.

· Prepare dancers for regional and national competitions, including costuming, staging, and technical coaching.

· Teach and refine techniques in styles such as ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, and hip hop.

· Lead regular team rehearsals and conduct additional practices before key performances.

· Evaluate dancer progress and provide constructive feedback to students and parents.

· Foster discipline, teamwork, and a strong work ethic in a positive and motivating manner.

· Stay current with dance trends and competition standards.

· Ensure routines meet age-appropriate guidelines and adhere to competition rules.

· Collaborate with other instructors, choreographers, and staff to support the overall success of the dance program.

· Foster a supportive, inclusive, and fun classroom environment.

· Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback.

· Maintain clear communication with parents.

· Prepare students for showcases, recitals, and possible competitions.

· Attend staff meetings, rehearsals, and studio events as needed.

· Ensure safety and proper technique at all times.

Qualifications

· Proven experience teaching dance to children.

· Training or certification in dance or dance education preferred.

· Proficient in one or more dance styles (e.g., ballet, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, tap).

· Energetic, patient, and able to motivate students of all ages.

· Able to manage groups of students and maintain class discipline in a positive way.

· Proven experience teaching and choreographing for competitive dance teams.

· Experience working with children and teens in a structured environment.

· Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

· Ability to manage time efficiently.

· CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
