Build the events young Jewish New Yorkers talk about all week.

MJE is where young Jewish professionals in Manhattan find community, meaningful learning and lifelong friends. As Program Director, you'll own the experiences at the heart of it: packed Shabbat dinners, Wednesday Night gatherings, holiday celebrations, retreats and Israel trips. You'll take each event from idea to unforgettable night, and you'll see the impact of your work in the room every week.

Why you'll love this role

  • Real ownership. You run the programs, not just support them. Your ideas go live in weeks, not years.
  • Impact you can see. Every week you'll meet the people your events bring together.
  • Room to grow. We'll train you on our programs and systems, and you'll build leadership, budgeting and team skills that carry your career forward.
  • Travel with purpose. Lead retreats and Israel trips.
  • A team that's leveling up. Work with a new marketing lead to make every program look and feel premium.
  • Benefits: add health, PTO, holidays

What you'll do

  • Run the calendar: weekly classes, Shabbat dinners, holidays, and guest speakers
  • Own every detail: venues, vendors, food, budgets, setup and the guest experience on the night
  • Lead retreats and Israel trips, including recruitment
  • Manage learning programs: registration, materials and attendance
  • Make newcomers feel at home and turn first-timers into regulars
  • Use attendance data to make each event better than the last
  • Partner with marketing to fill every room with photos, stories and program details
  • Pitch in on weekly Shabbat materials: the bulletin, Parsha packets and all marketing campaigns

You might be a fit if you

  • Have 3 to 6 years of work experience, including hands-on event or program work
  • Know Jewish life, Shabbat and the holidays (Hillel, Chabad, NCSY, Birthright or similar experience is a big plus)
  • Are a self-starter who sees problems before they happen
  • Think critically: you ask why, measure results and keep improving
  • Love people and can work a room, from a nervous newcomer to a VIP speaker
  • Stay organized while juggling several programs at once
  • Are comfortable with budgets and Google Workspace or Microsoft Office

Don't check every box? Apply anyway. We hire for drive and judgment, and we'll teach the rest.

The schedule

Our community gathers when they're off work, so this role includes Wednesday evenings, monthly Friday nights, select Shabbat programs, holidays, and travel for retreats and Israel trips.
