LIFEGUARD (Part-time and Full-Time Positions)
Summary: The Lifeguard is responsible for the maintaining the safety of individuals in and around the pool at all times.
Expectations of Employees:
- · Support the Mission of the Mandel JCC.
- · Possesses a working knowledge of agency programs and services in order to ensure that they are reflective of the Core Values of the Mandel JCC.
- · Represent the agency and provide the highest quality of customer service.
- · Adhere to all policies and practices in the employee handbook.
- · Wear Mandel JCC Uniform and Staff ID badge.
- · Attend appropriate staff meetings.
Responsibilities:
- · Maintains constant surveillance of guests and members in and around the pool; acts immediately and appropriately to secure safety of individuals.
- · Enforces Aquatics department rules and regulations in a fair and consistent manner.
- · Properly rotates in and out of lifeguarding chair.
- · Ensures proper swim patron to guard ratio at all times.
- · Conducts chemical checks as required. Reports chemical imbalances to supervisor and/or maintenance in a timely fashion.
- · Alerts lead guard, supervisor, and maintenance staff regarding mechanical issues, first aid and emergency procedures, and member incidents in a timely fashion.
- · Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services (EMS).
- · Prepares and maintains appropriate reports, as required.
- · Attends in-service trainings, as required.
- · Completes other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- · Adheres to The J’s code of ethics and avoids any real or perceived conflicts of interest, protocols, procedures, rules and policies.·
- Shows respect for co-workers and members and an understanding of and appreciation for the diversity of the Agency’s staff, members, and audiences.
- · Maintains confidentiality.
Qualifications:
- · Must be at least 15 years of age as required by the American Red Cross.
- · Current CPR, Lifeguard, and First Aide Certification with AED.
- · Ability to react calmly, confidently, and effectively in emergency situations.
- · Demonstrated ability to apply lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
- · Ability to lift and/or carry up to 45 lbs.
