Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops and implements comprehensive Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that align with student needs and educational goals.
- Applies Differentiated Instruction strategies, adapting teaching methods and materials to meet the unique learning styles and abilities of each student.
- Implements effective Behavior Management techniques, fostering a positive and productive classroom environment and promoting self-regulation.
- Conducts thorough Student Assessment, monitors progress and uses data to inform instructional decisions and report on student outcomes.
- Engages in active Collaboration with general education teachers, parents, support staff, and administrators to ensure integrated student support.
- Designs engaging and accessible Lesson Plans that address IEP goals and state academic standards.
- Performs Curriculum Adaptation, modifying general education curriculum to make content accessible and relevant for students with disabilities.
- Utilizes Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) principles to create a proactive and supportive school culture.
- Communicates regularly and effectively with parents regarding student progress and development.
- Maintains accurate and confidential student records in compliance with all regulations.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Holds a master's degree in special education.
- Possesses specific endorsements or certifications in areas such as autism, learning disabilities, or emotional disturbance.
- Has experience with assistive technology and adaptive learning tools
- Possesses a valid NYS teaching certification in Special Education.
Experience
- Demonstrates experience working with students across a range of disabilities.
- Has proven experience in developing, implementing, and monitoring Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Knowledge/Skills
- Possesses a deep understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Applies expertise in Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) development, implementation, and review.
- Utilizes a variety of Differentiated Instruction strategies to support diverse learners.
- Employs effective Behavior Management techniques, including proactive and responsive interventions.
- Conducts and interprets various forms of Student Assessment to measure progress and guide instruction.
- Exhibits strong Collaboration and communication skills with all stakeholders.
- Masters Lesson Planning that is engaging, accessible, and aligned with student needs.
- Proficiently performs Curriculum Adaptation to meet individual learning requirements.
- Implements Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) effectively.
- Shows empathy, patience, and a strong commitment to student success.
Physical Requirements/Work Conditions
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Works primarily in a classroom environment, which may include moderate noise levels.
- May involve assisting students with mobility, personal care, or specialized equipment.
- Requires visual acuity and hearing to monitor students and classroom activities.
