Middle School Counselor

Krieger Schechter Day School, a co-educational K-8 Jewish day school, is in search of

a dynamic full-time Middle School (5th-8th grade) Counselor to join our creative and

dedicated faculty.

Responsibilities:

● Supervises all aspects of individual MS student social/emotional wellbeing

○ creates and implements support plans for students with concerns

○ supervises all social/emotional-related communication with parents,

teachers, students

○ facilitates individual, small-group and large-group interventions as needed

on topics related to wellbeing (for example: social media/tech, substance

abuse, inclusion/belonging, etc.)

○ spearheads crisis-related communication and action steps (community

death, news-based event, etc.)

○ maintains thorough records, complying with best practices and regulations

related to confidentiality

○ recommends additional steps to parents for students in need

■ outside testing, medication, additional support personnel

○ consults with outside support professionals for individual students, for

coordinated responses and support

● Participates in professional development to improve skills related to the position

● Coordinates all aspects of the MS Bo N’Daber (BND) curriculum

○ Supervises teachers in implementation

○ Adjusts curriculum as needed

○ Communicates with school community about monthly themes

○ Creates BND class lists

● Initiates experiences for faculty wellbeing

● Serves as member of the KSDS Administrative team

○ Consults and collaborates on administrative decisions

● Serves as member of the MS Resource team

○ Consults and collaborates with the team on division-related administrative

decisions

Specific Additional Responsibilities:

○ Collaborates with MS science teachers to implement program/teaching of

sex education / human wellness for all middle school grades

○ Creates locker assignments

○ Creates groupings for field trips

○ Coordinates school initiatives related to LGBTQ inclusion/awareness

○ Assists in planning and implementing 5th grade orientation process

○ Teaches 6th grade Wellness course

Additional areas of contribution to school may be included, depending on the interests

and skill-sets of the candidate.

Qualifications:

● Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in school guidance and

counseling.

● At least 2 years of experience in counseling/guidance in educational settings.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

● Knowledge of growth and developmental stages of adolescents.

● Knowledge of best practices and methodologies in school counseling

● Ability to work effectively as a team member and independently with staff,

students and parents.

● Excellent oral and written communication skills.

● Ability to establish positive relationships with many different types of

individuals.

● High standards of ethics, honesty, and integrity

● Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, and

manage work assignments in an efficient manner and within established

timeframes
