About the Katz JCC
The Marjorie & Lewis Katz Jewish Community Center (Katz JCC) is the heart of the South Jersey Jewish community and has served Atlantic County for more than 115 years as a vibrant hub for connection, and engagement. Generations of families have grown up within its programs, making it a cornerstone of Jewish life in the region.
Guided by its mission to strengthen Jewish identity, values, and continuity, the Katz JCC promotes community, well-being, and meaningful engagement for individuals and families of all ages and backgrounds. Its offerings include health and wellness, early childhood education, youth and camp programs, arts and culture, and active adult services.
Rooted in tradition and community, the Katz JCC continues to evolve to meet the needs of today’s families while honoring its legacy of connection and service across generations.
The Katz JCC operates with an approximate annual budget of $7 million and employs 65 full-time, year-round staff, along with 40–50 part-time employees. During the summer season, the number of part-time staff doubles to support seasonal operations.
Job Summary
The Katz JCC seeks a dynamic, visionary, and mission driven Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead a vibrant, and multi-service community center. As the organization’s chief leader, the CEO will oversee all aspects of strategic, operational, and financial performance, ensuring the JCC remains a central hub for Jewish life, community engagement, health and wellness, and cultural enrichment.
In close partnership with the Board, the CEO will advance the JCC’s mission, enhance financial sustainability, and position the organization for continued long-term growth and impact. A critical priority for the incoming CEO will be spearheading major fundraising efforts, including the planning and execution of a capital campaign to support significant facility enhancements and future expansion.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership & Operations
● Provide visionary leadership and implement strategic priorities aligned with the Katz JCC’s mission and values
● Demonstrate strong executive presence with the ability to build trust and credibility across diverse stakeholders
● Foster a high-performing, inclusive culture grounded in trust, collaboration, and accountability, empowering teams across departments to excel and operate with excellence
● Ensure impactful and inclusive programming that reflects evolving community needs
● Sound judgment and decision-making, particularly in complex and dynamic environments
● Responsible for all aspects of daily operations, including program development, membership, facilities, and staff management
Planning, Development & Organizational Growth
● Develop and articulate a clear strategic vision aligned with evolving community and organizational needs
● Engage the Board and lead long-term strategic planning to ensure sustainability and growth
● Align financial planning with organizational priorities and long-term financial goals
● Support leadership development and succession planning across the organization
● Identify emerging opportunities for program expansion, innovation, and strategic partnerships
Financial Management and Resource Development
● Oversee the annual operating budget with strong fiscal oversight and long-term planning
● Diversify and grow revenue streams, including membership, program fees, grants, and philanthropic support
● Oversee the development and execution of fundraising strategies, including major gifts and capital campaign initiatives, while building and stewarding relationships with donors, foundations, and philanthropic partners
● Ensure sound financial controls and transparent reporting to the Board, while representing the organization in funding and philanthropic partnerships to strengthen external resource development opportunities
Capital Projects & Facilities
● Provide strategic leadership and oversight for major capital projects, including facility renovations and expansion initiatives
● Partner with the Board, donors, and consultants on the planning, fundraising, and execution of key capital priorities, including aquatics and wellness facilities
● Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and aligned with community needs
Board & Community Relations
● Partner effectively with the Board to set organizational direction, strategy, and policy
● Maintain clear, transparent, and proactive communication with the Board, providing regular reports, insights, and recommendations
● Support the recruitment, development, and engagement of board members, volunteers, and committee leadership
● Serve as a visible, engaging leader within the Jewish and broader communities ● Build and strengthen relationships with local organizations, agencies, and community leaders to advance the mission and impact of the Katz JCC
Required Qualifications:
● 7+ years of senior leadership experience in a nonprofit, mission driven, or community-based organization. Relevant for-profit leadership experience combined with nonprofit lay leadership experience will be considered
● Education: Bachelor’s degree required
● Demonstrated executive leadership experience overseeing complex operations, strategy, and organizational performance
● Proven success managing complex budgets (ideally $5M+ organizations)
● Strategic thinker with the ability to set vision and translate it into actionable organizational priorities
● Strong track record in fundraising, including major gifts, grants, and donor engagement
● Experience leading capital campaigns and/or major facility development projects
● Deep understanding of nonprofit governance and working effectively with boards and volunteer leadership
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including donor messaging, grant writing, and public-facing communication
● Demonstrated success in strategic leadership, organizational management and team development
● Ability to inspire staff, donors, and stakeholders around a shared vision
● Skilled in change management and organizational growth
● Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills
● Commitment to Jewish values, culture, and community life
Preferred Attributes:
● Education; Advanced degree preferred
● Experience in or strong familiarity with Jewish communal organizations, synagogues, federations, or affiliated agencies
● Comfort operating in a public-facing role, representing the organization at community events, with media, and among civic and philanthropic leaders
● Entrepreneurial and innovative mindset with the ability to identify opportunities for impact and expansion
● Background or experience in marketing, communications, social services, or community engagement is highly valued
● Passion for health and wellness, lifelong learning, and inclusive community building
● Familiarity with aquatics, fitness, or recreational facility operations
Compensation and Benefits:
● Competitive Salary of $175-$225K commensurate with experience
