Job Title: Activity Leader ll, Kensington Club Social Day Program Hours: 20 hours/week; Part-time Hourly Rate: $22/hr. base (wage commensurate with experience). Work from home option: On an occasional and limited basis with supervisor approval. Job Summary: Kensington Clubs (KC) provides stimulating social day programming for adults age 50+ living with early-stage memory loss, including mild cognitive impairment (MCI), Alzheimer’s disease, and other forms of dementia or memory loss. Programs are offered in Rockville, White Oak, and Germantown. Each four-hour session provides engaging cognitive, physical, social, emotional, creative, and recreational opportunities led by experienced staff and contracted professionals. Reporting to the Manager of the Kensington Clubs, Activity Leader II is a 20-hour-per-week position combining direct program activity leadership with enhanced administrative, electronic recordkeeping, data-management, and specialized program responsibilities (such as training as an Opening Minds Through Art (OMA) facilitator). The Activity Leader II is regularly assigned to two Kensington Clubs program sessions per week, with remaining scheduled hours devoted to program planning and preparation, database and record maintenance, program statistics, meetings, specialized programming, training, and other administrative and operational responsibilities. The Activity Leader II assists members entering and transitioning from the program and works collaboratively with caregivers and the Kensington Clubs team to address members’ individual needs, abilities, interests, and safety. This position is distinguished from the Activity Leader I role by its regular responsibility for electronic database maintenance, program data and statistics, record accuracy, independent administrative assignments, and specialized programming, including training to become an Opening Minds Through Art (OMA) Facilitator. General Responsibilities/Duties The Activity Leader II: Develops, prepares, and leads engaging in-person and virtual cognitive, physical, recreational, creative, and social programming for adults living with early-stage memory loss, providing appropriate supervision and ensuring member safety. Demonstrates initiative and independence in supporting daily program operations and leads small-group exercise, recreation, and fall-prevention activities for at least 30 minutes per program day. Plans and implements assigned Community Integration outings and contributes collaboratively to monthly activity calendars and other special programming. Documents daily attendance and promptly communicate significant changes in member behavior or functioning, incidents, safety concerns, or procedural issues to appropriate program leadership. Independently obtains, orders, organizes, and maintains activity materials and program supplies and participates in an annual inventory, purge, and reorganization of program storage areas. Completes assigned refreshment preparation, service, cleanup, kitchen sanitation, restocking, and end-of-session setup to ensure program areas are clean, organized, safe, and ready for use. Conducts quarterly Member Council meetings with co-leaders and communicates member feedback and findings to program leadership. Assists with member and caregiver communication, tours, outreach, telephone inquiries, acquaintance visits, and other program-related activities as assigned. Provides Activity Leader coverage at Kensington Clubs locations when needed and supervises and supports interns and volunteers as assigned. In addition to direct program responsibilities, the Activity Leader II: Maintains accurate and timely electronic member, caregiver, enrollment, attendance, service, participation, and other assigned program records in JSSA-designated systems. Reviews electronic records for completeness and accuracy, identifies missing, outdated, inconsistent, or duplicate information, and corrects or appropriately reports discrepancies. Compiles, tracks, and maintains program statistics and supporting data used for internal reporting, quality improvement, grant reporting, and departmental needs. Maintains organized electronic files, spreadsheets, records, and documentation and assists with data cleanup, reconciliation, and special data-management projects. Develop proficiency in and regularly use JSSA-designated CRM, financial, electronic recordkeeping, data-management, scheduling, reporting, and other technology platforms required for the position. Completes assigned database, recordkeeping, and data-management responsibilities independently, accurately, confidentially, and within established deadlines. Completes required Opening Minds Through Art (OMA) Facilitator training and certification as part of the Activity Leader II position. After completing the Opening Minds Through Art (OMA training) assuming responsibilities fully and equally, rotating duties with co-facilitators Following certification, assists with planning, coordinating, implementing, and facilitating OMA programming in collaboration with other trained facilitators, staff, volunteers, interns, and community partners. Supports OMA participant and volunteer preparation and orientation, materials and supplies, program documentation and participation data, demonstrations, art shows, and related activities. Additional Program & Operational Responsibilities: Treats members and families with dignity and respect and protects confidential information in accordance with JSSA policies and applicable privacy and recordkeeping requirements. Effectively manages the full 20-hour workweek, balancing direct programming, preparation and cleanup, electronic database and administrative work, meetings, training, approved telework, and special projects. Attends and participates in JSSA meetings, Kensington Clubs member rounds, staff meetings, in-service trainings, and other required meetings. Participates in continuing education related to dementia care, activity programming, technology, data systems, and other relevant areas, and shares appropriate knowledge and resources with colleagues. Leads and participates in assigned departmental events and initiatives, which may include OMA, Winter Mitzvah, team-building events, Eli’s Loaves of Love, and the Annual Volunteer Recognition & Awards program Minimum Requirements/Qualifications: Bachelor’s or associate degree in therapeutic recreation, recreation, social work, human services, aging services, healthcare, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and professional experience. Relevant professional experience working with older adults, individuals living with dementia or cognitive change, or in a human-services, healthcare, social adult day, recreation, or related setting. Experience working with individuals living with dementia is strongly preferred. Knowledge of the social, cognitive, physical, emotional, and recreational needs of adults age 50+ living with early-stage dementia, with demonstrated patience and sensitivity to evolving member needs. Experience with electronic recordkeeping, databases, spreadsheets, data tracking, statistics, or comparable administrative systems, with strong attention to detail and accuracy. Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Jot, and Zoom, with the ability and willingness to learn and regularly use additional JSSA technology, databases, financial, scheduling, and reporting systems. Strong written, oral, interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills. Must be dependable, punctual, creative, flexible, self-directed, and able to work effectively both independently and collaboratively. Ability to independently balance direct member programming with documentation, database maintenance, administrative assignments, program preparation, meetings, and special projects within the established 20-hour workweek. Ability to meet established documentation, data-entry, timecard, and administrative deadlines and appropriately safeguard JSSA-issued technology and equipment. Must adhere to JSSA policies regarding confidentiality, privacy, employee conduct, photography/video, and other applicable organizational requirements. Must consent to required criminal background screening; fingerprinting and/or medical clearance may also be required based on organizational or regulatory requirements. Willingness to travel and work at varied Kensington Clubs locations as requested. CPR/First Aid certification required or must be obtained within the timeframe established by JSSA. Valid driver’s license required. Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP) certification with required recertification preferred. OTAGO fall-prevention certification and annual recertification preferred. Willingness to complete and maintain required Opening Minds Through Art (OMA) Facilitator training and certification. Physical Requirements: Ability to respond safely and appropriately to members requiring physical assistance or support, including during an emergency or crisis. Ability to lift or support at least 40 pounds as needed and to walk, sit, stand, stoop, bend, and kneel as required for program activities and administration of First Aid/CPR. Ability to push or pull loads up to 30 pounds and lift supplies or deliveries up to 25 pounds between program areas. Ability to occasionally use safe lifting techniques for loads up to 80 pounds with assistance from another staff member.
