Refugee Worker
(12 month contract – 2 positions)

JIAS Toronto is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to helping immigrants with resettlement in the Greater Toronto Area. JIAS Toronto assists lawfully admitted immigrants and refugees in meeting basic financial, social, legal, and other requirements of immigration. We work to advance the well-being and social integration of newcomers by providing a full range of outreach, support, counseling, training, and referral resources.

We are seeking two Refugee Worker who will be responsible for ensuring refugees have the necessary tools and supports to successfully settle in Canada. Working together with JIAS settlement workers, the Refugee Support Worker coordinates a number of activities such as welcoming clients at the airport, arranging transportation, booking appointments, and identifying resources for clients.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop training materials and provide training sessions to Constituent Groups (CGs), co-sponsors and staff.
  • Facilitate connections between CGs, co-sponsors with essential resources and ensure adequate support for refugees.
  • Perform regular check-ins with CGs and clients to ensure compliance with the Private Sponsorship of Refugees (PSR) Program.
  • Support clients by connecting them to available services and programs.
  • Liaise with settlement agencies in other communities to coordinate settlement support.
  • Collect required information to ensure compliance with the PSR Program Accountability Framework.
  • Research available services for cases with high needs.
  • Provide regular reports on families’ settlement progress in compliance with the PSR Program.
  • Support other activities, including assisting clients with applications and paperwork, scheduling appointments, and aiding in housing searches.
  • Maintain accurate and timely data collection for both internal and external record-keeping in accordance with Agency and professional standards.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures to support and clarify the day-to-day operations of the settlement team.
  • Participate in internal and external meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in social services or a related field.
  • Experience working with newcomers or other vulnerable populations.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office Package.
  • Proficiency in using client record and case management systems (Salesforce).
  • Demonstrated ability to establish rapport, credibility and build strong relationships with clients and colleagues and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be a team player and able to support multiple CGs and clients simultaneously.
  • A detail oriented mindset is a must.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
  • Fluency in languages such as Hebrew, Russian, Arabic, Tigrinya, Farsi, etc.
